The Blind Boys’ version of Dimming of the Day is the best I’ve ever heard, including Bonnie Raitt’s and Alison Krauss’s. It doesn’t seem to be available anywhere but on this CD, though.

Good to hear you like Blind Boys version of Dimming Of The Day… Sorry to say, I wasn’t bowled over by the Blind Boys interpretation of the song, just my opinion, too many instruments layered over the vocals. It is all about the song, vocal delivery/emotion.! I’ve heard the song sung live a few times by different artists. Back in the early 80s, Richard and Linda Thompson played the Edinburgh Playhouse - their version was excellent, just Linda singing the song with Richard playing a banjo! In the 90s, Mary Black played the Celtic Connections in Perth, and her version of the song was spine tingling! The best version (to my ears), sung live at a concert! Tom Jones does a decent rendition on his album Spirit In The Room.
I’d like to know why the Blind Boys, and a few other artists - who’ve covered the song, change the lyrics? Richard Thompson wrote the lyrics… “When all my will is gone you hold me sway”. Blind Boys sing, …”you hear me pray”. Anyway, its a great song - perennial favourite, covered by many legendary artists.

Could be because the Boys are primarily a gospel group. I imagine they saw an opportunity to “tailor” the song to themselves.

Listening to this again. Miles Showell did a great job in my opinion in this one.
