Victor de Sabata’s recording of the Fourth, originally released on two 78s, made in Berlin, April 1939.

Recorded in 1961, just two years before Ferenc Fricsay’s untimely death at age 48. His interpretations exhibit a certain temered provocation, charged with inner meaning.

Homage to Merle Haggard and Bakersfield country of the 60s. Well recorded.

Whilst I was listening to this I got a strong feeling that it was a performance I should really have enjoyed hearing live.
