Lorenzon Zavateri (1690-1764)
Typical 2nd-tier Italian Baroque compositions (published in 1735)…well crafted but not very creative when compared to the master composers of the 18th century.

I’ve always enjoyed Williams. One of the concert highlights of my life was seeing him play with Julian Bream in Ann Arbor many, many years ago. That tour was recorded and used to issue a 2-LP live set. I’m geeky enough that I even keep the old concert program (complete with my notes about which pieces I liked best) in with the album.
I remember that, and another great studio. Another massive ex Methodist Church, bought by Sir Brian Epstein in 1965. So many churches, it is opposite another one that is now a nursery school.
Often used for film soundracks, especially full orchestral like this fabulous one, which I have on vinyl. Sumptuous music.
More recently the soundtrack or The Power of the Dog was recorded there. Also lots of the Pure Pleasure releases are remaster there, I get a lot of them.
Highly recommended!

Indeed
I find this to be a most energetic album and one of the best recorded too. There is depth and width to the orchestra that is so well matched by the high, sustained notes from Nadja.
Wonderful performances. Julian Riem is a capable arranger/ pianist.
Thanks for posting. I’ll have to look for that. I’m expecting a Presto delivery any time now with a couple of discs Stereophile liked a lot - Mendelssohn violin sonatas and Ligeti’s Lux Aeterna.
A very nice performance and recording on SACD from Linn. You can occasionally find really nice prices on Linn disks from Presto in the UK and Berkshire Record Outlet in the US.
Streaming the above on Tidal, while enjoying the performance the noise floor on the recording, especially on violin fortes is somewhat disappointing. It has a certain digital haze added in with the violins. Any suggestions for alternate performances would be appreciated. I’ll need to track down my CD version to see if it improves sonically on the Tidal stream.
When you see Dennis Rooney’s name as producer on the Bernstein Century Series covers, they are (with a few exceptions) the same mastered version as the Bernstein Royal Edition from the early 90’s. The Royal Edition was the first CD release of the Bernstein catalog.
If you enjoy the Bernstein/Stern performance, look for the Seiler/Meyer remasters. They might only be available on CD in large box sets, however, I’ve been told you can find them on streaming services as well.
Other versions of the Violin Concerto I’ve been listening to lately are Tetzlaff/Zinman on Arte Nova/RCA/Sony, and Gluzman/Gaffigan on BIS.
Listening to this again, its one of my favourite “live” performances. Its well recorded, and has a subtle/good bass on some tracks (and its SACD too)
