I have a DirectStream driving a power amp Ayre VX-5 and my loudspeakers are Proac D30. I find sometimes the sound a bit lifeless and not energetic and involving. I listen to classical an jazz music at reasonable (low) volume from approximately 3mt from the loudspeakers. I am doubting if the problem is the missing preamp or it is the typical ayre sound, a bit too polite. So I doubt whether I should change the power amp with another (class a pass, ps audio s300, or gamut) or maybe buy an integrated, hence I am considering an Accuphase e650 or maybe even the ayre ax-5. Any suggestion? Thanks
