Will the DS MKII ever see more development? Is this something Ted could do on his own as paid updates?

Your take is spot on.

That was true for the original Bridge in both the DSMKI and the Junior, but as they say, live and learn!

In the new PMG Series, we started with the knowledge of the past and built the platform around the idea of a streamer, making sure it had adequate power supply and ample noise protection, reclocking, and properly built in.

Thanks for all the responses Paul. I am a very happy owner of DS2 and PST and AirLens and lastly FR20 …. Much thanks for everything

That is correct. Ted’s a great guy and ne of the smartest engineers I have ever had the privilege of working with in my 50 years of doing this. He was a consultant and never an employee of the company. We were (and are) honored to

There will be an aggressive buyback program for the MKII to move into the PMG Signature 512s. Stay tuned.

We are not currently working on any new projects with Ted.

Paul, thank you very much for this information as well as the explanation below about streamer noise issues.

Alex is correct and it’s something I miss. For a long time in the past we openly discussed our ā€œscience projectsā€ of what we’re working on. That was a true double edged sword but one I miss.

We still consider everyone here and all PS owners and wanna be owners as family. None of that has changed. (as an aside, I was telling my wife Terri how proud I was of her display at Axpona. While everyone else has their products showing our a bold claim on their displays, ours -when you look into our room from the hall – was simple. ā€œWelcome to the HiFi Familyā€. And that is still true.)

What happened is those discussion devolved into some bitter squabbles and critical posts that kind of turned me away from them. I get it. People don’t always like change and at any engineering based company, like PS, there always change. It’s what we do and what we talk about!

Maybe someday we can get back to it.

You’re welcome. Hope it helps to clear some of the mysteries up.

Paul, you meeting with a group of us forum members and giving us a personal talk & explanation about 4 near-future PS Audio products was the highlight of Axpona for us (though there were other major highlights too). Learning of the technical accomplishments, their origins, and insights into the new DAC and preamp firsthand was fascinating, to say the least. Congrats on taking a new bold step forward, and creating these new designs that deserve to do well. And thank you for spending time with us at Axpona.

Regarding the ā€œaggressive buyback of DSD Mk2ā€, will this be in the US solely or open to dealers overseas like Europe/UK for example?
Obviously the price of the ā€œPMG Signature DACā€ will determine the take-up together with the sum offered by PSAudio for the DSDMk2 units, of which most it not all are still under warranty.
Will be interesting to follow this in the months ahead.

Paul thank you for that info. One of the reasons I love buying your products is the passion you and your company have for the hobby. Looking forward to putting in the order. BTW, how should the ones of us who want to take advantage of this start?

Anyone have a way to contact Ted? I see his Linkedin account is no longer there.

I almost couldn’t wait. As good as the MKII sounds as it does, there are some rough edges that can be ironed out. The main display for example. I suppose I can view the PMG is a said and done final product vs something in constant late beta.

I’ve really appreciated Paul’s ongoing comments in this thread. Sharing information honestly is the best way to move past disappointments and disagreements. Like many others, I’m disappointed that my DS MKII isn’t going to receive the future-proofing from Ted’s genius that I originally expected. I’ve also been worried about Ted’s future and even his health, so it’s good to know that he’s still actively thinking deep thoughts about new DACs. I’m also happy to know that PS Audio remains committed to producing new products to keep the company financially healthy and moving forward.

I’ve also recently seen how similar consumer concerns are playing out at other audio companies. For example, the new product announcements at AXPONA by Innuos have upset many of their loyal customers because the Innuos Zen series of server/streamers will soon be replaced by the Stream1 and Stream3. People who have recently purchased any of the older Zen or Zenith products are especially frustrated that they could have purchased the newer models if they had just waited a few months. I don’t think the folks at Innuos were trying to fool their customers, but they probably didn’t want to announce a new line of products so soon that current sales would be threatened. This is the balancing act that companies must negotiate if they want to build new products and also satisfy current customers.

With regard specifically to PS Audio, I’m glad to be part of the PSA ā€œfamily.ā€ When I ordered a pair of FR10 speakers a few months ago, PSA had not yet started to offer their 40% trade-in promotion for those speakers. Even though I had already paid for the speakers and arranged for the standard 25% trade-in value, I re-contacted PSA and asked if I could be included in the 40% promotion. The sales team said sure because they always take care of their loyal customers. I was very pleased to get my new FR10s for $6K plus several boxes of old gear that had been ā€œrestingā€ in my basement. By the way, the FR10s sound great!!!

I recently purchased a new mtb bike that was on sale a great price and have been enjoying riding it. Shortly afterwards the company introduced a revised version of the same model. At first I wished i had waited a little longer, or knew of the upcoming release, but considering how much I saved I feel content with my purchase. I think this is a good practice for companies to follow. By selling soon to be replaced models at a discount, customers feel less jilted.

I do not have a dog in this hunt, having sold my DSD Mk1 to a forum member many years ago, at which point I switched to another company’s DAC. I just wanted to thank Paul and PS Audio for allowing critical voices on the forum and for engaging with them. The free exchange of opinions and ideas is refreshing. (On some audio forums, if you criticize the host or its products, you could find yourself banned or flamed unmercifully.)

So will the DSD MkII be discontinued in light of the upcoming PMG signature DAC, or will it remain in PS Audio’s lineup?

Paul had said earlier it will be discontinued
