Your Next Upgrade? (Part 1)

I hooked everything up after my last post and was so immersed in the music that I lost track of time. I knew what the power cables were capable of, but wasn’t prepared for how much more goodness would come from a full loom. All key components now have 4004 power cords and the silver pair powers the DAC and preamp.

Something unrelated that I forgot to share last week… I had Townshend isolation platforms underneath my speakers and six pack subs… over 500 lbs in suspension. I moved the four Townshend platforms under my component rack and amplification – everything in the component chain up to the speakers is now suspended.

The sound is fuller and more resonant with a previous lightness in the upper bass to mids filled in, but not as light as when speakers were suspended nor as rich as when everything was directly on the floor. It strikes a better balance between tone and staging and I prefer the more intense bass impact felt listening to the gut punch playlist.

I took an accelerometer to the equipment and recorded the difference between floor acceleration and equipment acceleration while music was playing. The big spike n the middle is when I moved the phone from floor to equipment.
