And if @RonP ‘s voice is temporarily higher, he was too close to the cables

Those BAV power cables are one of the best bargains in audio.

Got my Masterbuilt Ultra USB 1.5m cable (retail $12,000) today. I would never pay $12k for an USB cable, no matter how good it is. But at $4.8k, it’s still really streaching it a bit. That said, this cable is the real deal! It has a very dark background. Music imerges from nothingness that is quite startling! Micro detail and presence is enhanced. But how does it compare with my ChordMusic USB 1m cable (retail $5,320). Well, the Masterbuilt still gives you more of the music, but the difference is really small. Of course cables in the $3k range really suffers in comparision. Anyway, I needed a 1.5m cable for my new transport and am very happy with the purchase.

My recent thoughts are turning to an upgrade of DSD Mk2 dac to the recently released Meitner MA3i.

All research is looking positive.

Any comments/experience from members welcome.

Cheers

If you read the history of SACD, the DAC and Ed Meitner, you’ll find that he is pretty much the Gold Standard in that world. How could you go wrong with his DAC?

I was about to get a EMM Labs DA2i untill I found out it doesn’t do DSD256 which is a majority of my files. Correct me if I’m wrong about the DSD256.

Yep. A lot of experience in the company.

I’m hopefully getting to audition sometime in the next week.

Cheers

Kevin

I think you’re right from what I can understand. DSD 128 max input. It then does some magic internally to scale to DSD1024.

The DV2 /DA2 also only takes DSD 128. I’m not sure why the limitation- but there’s probably a good reason for it.

Audition will tell I presume.

Would be very interested in your thoughts on the Meitner MA3i. It’s on my short list of Dac/streamers besides the PMG 512. Not much talk here about it but very favorable reviews elsewhere. Keep us posted!

My latest upgrade was an iFi Microdrive iTube 2. This is a tube buffer that can also be used as a preamp and has two adjustable effects. I had the previous iTube in my headphone only system for over a year and read that the 2 version was much better. . . took me a year to find one for sale, either they did not build many or it is rarely sold used. . . or both.

I really like it, it’s about 10 percent better than the first version sonically; I don’t use the effects. I have the upgraded power supply too, which helps. It sounds very good going in to the PS Audio GCHA headphone amplifier (an underrated component).

After a week of using the 2 I am sure I am not going to use the first version again. Will figure out what to do with it.

I am upgrading my Esoteric C-02 preamp. I just bought an Esoteric Grandioso C1 preamp to match my Grandioso M1 mono blocks. My old C-02 has out performed every other preamp I have tried in my system. It brought even more life and realism to my system over my Dac’s going direct to power amps. I hope the C1 will equally not disappoint with it’s sound quality.

“Ooh, he’s an angry preamp.”*

*The lines on the pre and power supply combine to create a menacing countenance with the pre stacked on the top of the power supply, no?

The PSA forum software won’t allow a preview for some reason, but a click or a cut-and-paste should get you there.

They had a 30% discount offer when I ordered mine, and “free” shipping. I have a UPS tracking number, but they are made to order, so it hasn’t shipped yet…
