Your Next Upgrade? (Part 2)

Not really, Stealth Sakra 17 could sound even better, but that is five times more cost too. I am very happy of what I have and will use the saving for more traveling and golfing.

Do your Wilson’s need only 1 pair of speaker cables per speaker? (I’m thinking of the cost of biwiring)

One set of binding posts.

I just bought some new XLR interconnects to try. They are Matthew Bond Audio Analog Reference 1.5 m. Retails for $18k. I will compare them to my Transparent Opus’s 1m ($19k) and SR Galileo SX’s 1m ($9k). Stay tuned.

Those are serious prices!
Let us know how they sound and have fun!

I reported earlier the SR SX’s blew me away with it’s transparencies and details my former WW Platinum 8’s only hints at. The Opus took it a step further by revealing even greater density and dimensionality. I’m excited to see what the Matthew Bond cables can do. When I gather enough funds, maybe I’ll try the Stealth Sakra V17 SE. I really don’t know if I can improve that much more on the Opus’s though. So many Wow moments with the Opus’s!

Amazing the difference in size between the large Takshaka cables and the enormous Royale V19 cables!!

I’ve experienced the V17 Royale and they were quite the revelation. The V19 must be a mind blow!

These XLRs are on my radar for potential upgrade. He has one listed here on AG for $4500, looks like same picture. https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lisbh3cc-matthew-bond-audio-analog-reference-1-5-mtr-reviewer-return-75-off-us-retail-interconnects. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Yes, the Stealth V19 Royale are just incredible.

Best speaker cables I have ever heard and will be a lifetime component to my system!

Since these are pre-release, I think I may have the only bi-wire set made (haven’t heard of anyone else owning these).

Thanks…….

It’s the same one I bought. I asked Matthew if I needed burn in on the cable because he is including a burn in disc with the shipping. Here’s what he has to say.

Hi Clifton,
The cables will need some burn-in time. So use the Cascade Noise burn-in disc(low volume at first!) and play music for a few days before any serious listening, but right out of the box you will be impressed.

I really think the cable is brand new even though he indicated it’s back from a reviewer. He’s selling the cable direct and I think it’s a commercial strategy to get some new cables out there for the good feedbacks. Delivery date is this Monday so we shall see.

I connected my 35 year old Infinity Modulus to the main system (MU2/523/534/REL sub/no infinity box), while it does not have the magic of the FR20, the old Infinity’s sound the best they have ever sounded.

I hate to admit it, but my latest upgrade are these state of the art Oticon hearing devices.

Went to the audiologist and was astounded to find out I have bad to severe hearing loss 4k-8k range (especially in my left ear). Probably from shooting guns or highway motorcycle trips, who knows. I’m turning 70 in a couple of months also.

Hoping I can improve my life with the aid of these devices - Time will tell!

I wonder how your system will sound different with these on? will the music still sound natural?

Time will tell.

There are adjustments I can play around with on my iPhone and also with the audiologist.

Honestly I knew I had some high frequency hearing loss, but it never really bothered me or seemed to affect how I heard music, etc. They said it will take time, but my brain will adjust to the new hearing information. My theory is if my left ear was not getting a lot of the audio range that my right ear was getting, these devices with equalize my hearing in both ears and improve my listening like imaging, soundstage, etc. We’ll see how they adapt…….

I have pretty severe loss in my left ear only. A hearing aid has been a game changer for me. Mine has a music mode that makes all the difference. I only put it in when listening to my system.

Handsome set of speakers!

Recently I made two changes to my system. I replaced two PS Audio M1200 amplifiers with two Fezz Audio Mira Ceti 300B SET Monoblock amplifiers for driving the tweeter/mid-range ribbons on my speakers. I still have a pair of PS Audio M1200 amplifiers driving the bass ribbons. This change made vocals much more realistic. The SET amps only put out 15 watts, but that is more than enough to drive the tweeter/mid-range. Having 1200 watts for the tweeter/mid-range was super overkill. Below is one of the SET amps.

The other change I made was purchasing a DAC a fellow forumite had mentioned in a post quite a while ago. I found a used one on TMR for a significant discount. Most of my equipment (other than the amplifiers) were designed with the power supplies in a separate chassis. I think this can reduce the noise in the equipment. WIth the new DAC, there was much more detail - but still very natural. The DAC is also designed to use an external clock. The one designed to mate with the DAC is way too expensive for my budget. There is a used one on US Audio Mart for about $15K. I purchased an OXCO clock from AfterDark for quite a bit less. After the OXCO clock reached steady-state temperature, details and decay were greatly improved. In the photo, the DAC is sitting on top of the Power Supply. The OXCO clock is on top of the DAC and Ferrum Hypsos power supply for the OXCO clock is on the left.
