The MU2 cannot do SACD directly, but it can take the output from Onix SACD transport, which takes the dsd layer, breaks it up, sends it via DoP to the MU2, which can then re-assemble the pieces as if they were never broken apart in the first place.
Thank you for that Paul! Good to know!
So much technical jargon! Laymanâs terms please!
In laymanâs terms, with the Onix Zenith SACD transport, connected to the MU2, one can hear SACD in all its glory.
Hi Paul, that ONIX is a nice little player. It is what I am using.
At one time I was considering it, then PMG line came out and I like the look a little better. I hope PMG SACD sounds a tidy better too.![]()
Oh I am sure it sounds better
. I only have a hand full of sacdâs but 1,400 reg cdâs. Just wanted something to spin discs again with and ran out of shelf space for full size transport. My dragon cable almost cost as much as the Onix
. Donald Do you have the new dac set to 256 or 512?
Most DSD files I have are 256, a few 128. I have one 512 file but have not tried it yet. I just push play, and I donât know that I can select setting. Iâll check that out later.
Donald i believe the 512 takes any sample rate and you can choose what sample conversion you want to go up to. I maybe wrong but that is what i got out of Jayâs video review. I think i better read the manual online before i get mine on Friday ![]()
I had a quick listen this evening. In short, itâs a step up from the old one.
The sound is very analog, not projected, with more nuance in the timbre and a more holographic quality.
Apparently, you have to wait two days for the clocks to fully settleâŠ
Although the new Rockna Wavedream Reference doesnât particularly pique my interest, Iâm continuing my observations. My system consists of a Zidoo Neo Alpha, an Innuos Phoenix USB Reclocker, and the DAC.
Compared to the older Rockna Signature, the new system is slightly superior if you remove the Innuos USB Reclocker.
But if you put the Reclocker back in between the Zidoo and the Wavedream Reference, you get more nuance and realism, with a wider, more holographic sound. Itâs a sound very close to vinyl.
I can only imagine what it would sound like with a ârealâ streamer.
I think Iâm developing a new guide line for upgrading. If I canât hear the difference without careful and rapid A/B evaluation, the switch isnât worth it. Although I must say itâs really nice to have an rf remote for the PMG series.
The Rockna Weavedream Reference is truly a DAC worth listening to. It produces a very holographic, detailed sound with a very natural feel that lets the emotion shine through. It handles classical, jazz, and even hard rock with ease.
And, a very rare quality for high-end equipment, it doesnât make âdifficultâ recordings unlistenable at all; quite the opposite, in fact.
Ultimately, Iâm keeping it; itâs staying at home.
PMG 512 arrived today, after 3 hours it is sounding really really good. Having a little issue with setting up WiFi with internal streamer so gave up for now and going with Qobuz connect with N200 and I will be very surprised if internal streamer can sound better. PMG 512 with the PMG Pre are a great combo.
Very nice setup. I had no problem for setting up the streamer when I first got it. It worked fine until yesterday. It came and went a few times, and another member had issue too. If you were setting up yesterday, then you may have issue.
Try it tomorrow and you may have better luck. Mine came back today and stayed for the whole day so far. ![]()
And I like that amp on the lower right.
Thanks Paul, Iâm happy I took your advice to go with the Dac rather than wait for the new Amp to come out. The dac, pre combo made me realize just how good the Levinson 334 still is today.![]()
M. Levinson gear always looks and matches great with silver and black!
I agree Donald, I just wish the red standby/on light was blue, it would match better and Iâm sure would sound better!![]()
