Your Next Upgrade? (Part 3)

He doesn’t hear what I hear from Stealth cords. I know that happens. I can’t hear Ethernet cables.

I want to know how a 10 lbs+ cable sound:laughing:

Heavy.

I wonder how could it be even connected to MU1 or MU2 without plug support, it may even damage the connectors.

Now we know why this thing existed for support.

One downfall of the Grimm products MU1/MU2 is that don’t play nice with larger aftermarket cables without support.

With some brands, customer support should weigh in some more!

I use a standard fire hose sized Stealth power cable in my MU2, soon to be MU1. No cable support. Hmmm.

I am sitting in @paul172 listening room. His system is the best I have ever heard. It completely destroys mine and any other I have heard. Unbelievable, but so amazing to listen to. Good grief!

Dark blue background and whatever non-alcoholic drinks he is feeding you did the trick.

I’m sure the Ethos and D300 are a big reason why Al. Gotta love Gryphon :winking_face_with_tongue:

I drank two gallons of Diet Pepsi today. Six hour drive, then six more hours with Paul. Fun.

When I got to the hotel at 9 pm the first person I saw was Paul McGowen. He is always so pleasant and kind. Fun!

@aangen were treated to a sneak peek at the new PMG amps and foundation subs! Very impressive sound. 4 foundry subs and the FR5’s. Appreciate the hospitality and the special preview @Paul and @Chris_Brunhaver

PS Audio photo from Facebook but this was the setup

That stack proves that PS Audio did a great job building-in RF and EMI immunity.

I see Paul still has a black box, center front on the floor. I like mine, keep it behind my listening chair.

Thanks for posting that! Paul didn’t explain the power supply on Friday morning. On Friday the amp he was standing next to had the top still on, but on Saturday I noticed it was off. Was surprised there were no huge toroidal transformers. The Hypex power supplies explains that!

One note on power ratings, I was talking to Bob Stadther (I probably butchered the spelling of his name), Chief Engineer, and he said in the past PS Audio specified power output at 8 Ohms, but industry “standard” is at 4 Ohms. For comparison a BHK 250 (my amp) would be a 500 watt amp when rated at 4 Ohms. I doubt I come even close to using what the BHK 250 is capable of, but the PMG 400 amps are the comparable model, power output wise, to the BHK 250.

My impression is the standard is to rate power at 8 Ω (at 1% distortion) . Has this changed to 4 Ω?

Or has it always been 4, and I have been confused for years?

Quite honestly I have no clue what the standard is. Bob said PS Audio went from 8 Ohms to 4 Ohms to be comparable to others. Doubling the power rating sure works for marketing purposes (we should not be so gullible …). If I see today I’ll ask again to make sure I understood him.

I have always found it most useful when amp power is spec’d at 8ohms, 4ohms, 2ohms…
Should we assume that the amps’ 4ohm ratings halves into an 8 ohm load?

I am thinking I will try going mad. Anyone has tried this thing called Mad Scientist Graphene Contact Enhancer? I have tried a couple but that was mainly for cleaning connectors. Some said this stuff actually improves SQ. Purely voodoo nonsense is what I will say. But I remember below:

When I first got my AQ Dragon jumpers, they sent me the pair with wrong direction (banana to spade was what I wanted). It was quite easy to correct that by disassembling and switching the connectors. I found there was some black gooey stuff at the end of wires inside connector casings. Now I wonder if that was some kind of graphene enhancer. If AQ uses it on their top cable, maybe they think it works.

So, let me know if anyone has tried this stuff. If not, I may order a bottle after our Canada trip.
