I am a retired mechanical engineer who spent the last 30 years of my career as a plant predictive/preventive maintenance engineer. I specialized in vibration analysis of mechanical systems in industrial facilities. This included standard vibration analysis on rotating equipment and multi-channel resonance testing of structures. I also taught these subjects as a subject matter expert in customer’s facilities and at my company. I have been into music since the 5th grade when the teacher played “Peter and the Wolf” and Beethoven’s 5th symphony as part of a music appreciation course. I have been building an audio system for the last 40 years or so - - - I have tried to buy good equipment, many of which have been used for these years. As we all do, I traded around a lot to get where my system is today. I will try to describe it here, but it is a complex system, so have patience! The main speakers are Magnaplanar MG20’s with modified and upgraded internal crossover caps from Mundorf and Jantzen Silver. These speakers are triamped with a pair of Bryston 10B electronic crossovers, one being a 10B Sub. The MG20’s are run full range in the Bass, while the hi pass crossover is a custom line Level 6 db/octave capacitor. The amps for the MG20’s are an Alta Vista Audio modded Counterpoint SA20 for the bass panels and a Parts Connection modified Sonic Frontiers Power 2 running KT 120 tubes. The Subwoofers are a custom designed and built stereo pair using 4, 3.5 ft3 chambers running 10 inch subwoofers per channel. They are tuned to a -3db point of 27Hz. and measure flat in room to 20 hz. The subwoofers are run by a McCormack DNA 220 Amplifier, and are set for a 50Hz -3db point at 24db/octave. The Turntable is a VPI Classic Signature with the 10 inch 3d arm, a Talisman Boron cartridge, the SDS Drive for the TT motor, and the VPI outer ring clamp. The Preamp is a Sonic Frontiers SFL-2 with the SE+ mods done by Parts Connection. There are several PS Audio components: 2 PP10’s, 5 PSA power bases, Directstream DAC, PW Transport, and the PSA Phono Converter. I am really looking forward to testing the new Memory Transport! Other interests include Hiking, Photography, Motorcycling, Snow skiing, bicycling, and staying fit.
