That argument completely misses the point I was making. Power Conditioners/regenerators are sold on the basis that ‘garbage in’ produces ‘garbage out’, in terms of an electrical signal, and that relatively small levels of THD in the power supply (in Aus it is around 2% not 5%) produces distortions to the sound. If correcting this is so important in the power supply, at painstaking cost, why is it suddenly unimportant to aim for much less inside the actual signal chain of the DAC/PREAMP.AMPLIFIER? As the old saying goes, what is good for the geese is good for the gander.
This is a very good question, one that begs an answer.
Buy it, or buy something else that measures better.
Just in case it hasn’t been discussed yet - no time to read through the whole thread - I am using the DSD DAC as a digital source pre-amp and it works great. I have some pretty revealing speakers and there is never a problem with any hiss or white noise. I might have said this in another thread, but at one point I bought a pretty high-end and well-regarded Krell pre-amp, and during listening comparisons I felt like it added a blanket between me and the speakers. I was missing out on some subtle details that I had grown used to with my music, so I shipped the Krell back and have been incredibly happy with the DSD DAC feeding a set of m700 monoblocks.
Thanks, do you have DS Jr, or DS senior?
I’ve owned both, actually and have the Sr. now. If anyone is wondering, I didn’t hear much of a difference between the Jr. and Sr. and prefer the design of the Jr. from the form factor perspective (really like the volume knob) but they’re both great products. You can’t go wrong with either no matter how high-end the rest of your system is. The Jr. is the better value between the two.
+1
I’ve owned both also. The Jr is far superior machine in ergonomics. Sound? Let’s say I really liked the Junior and the value makes it extremely attractive. I couldn’t live with the buggy firmware so I upgraded to the Senior.

Exact same sentiment here. It was the buggy behavior that caused me to seek an upgrade. But the Junior really is a platform that PS Audio should invest some time in improving/maintaining. It’s just a very nice looking and ergonomic device.
I like the JR ergonomics as well, but opted for the SR. With my system,
6 db better signal to noise was better for me as I was not using a preamp
at the time.
6dB within what other parameters? If the DSD Sr. measured as “poorly” as it did for ASR, then 6dB “worse” SINAD would be horrible by modern standards for the Jr. I honestly didn’t notice a difference on (some would argue bullsh*t) MQA tracks or standard CDs, but I wasn’t able to compare side-by-side.
Hey. Are you the same Bruce in Phily guy on 997 reenlist forum?
I am on Rennlist!
This noise figure was quoted by PSA and Ted many moons ago. Had audible hiss
I could hear in inefficient speakers. Note I did not have a preamp at the time.
I moved to JR after Benchmark. The former was quieter but liked JR sound better.
Compare units and decide for yourself.
Many questions surrounding the design decisions and design philosophy behind this DAC have all been answered at least 10 times each already in this very thread. If you really want to know the answers, then start reading from the beginning. It’s very tiresome stating the same answers over and over and over again…
If you just want to troll (as it seems most who keep pressing these same questions), then just buy yourself a $99 chip DAC, and feel smug about your own superiority.
Yep… that is me. Why? Need to use my Durametric?

Who are you accusing of trolling?
LOL, no… maybe later! Just wondered as it’s a small world and very interesting that folks who are into high end audio, seems to be into cars too. Maybe it’s in our DNA or something?
Cool, what do you drive? I still have my 2007 C4S.
Look in the PS Audio Forum we love cars… I posted some stuff about my car… 2009 C2S 145K miles MT. I drive it all year, have winter wheels/tires.
Maybe move this all there…

What was buggy about it? I am looking for one in the used market, but if buggy, might stay away.
