Someone whose knowedge I respect suggested that I try an SUT even though my phono stage has plenty of gain and is very low noise.

Thanks Rick. I’m not looking for recommendations. I undertsand the variables to choosing one. I’m just curious if anyone with a good preamp and MC cart has tried one and what their experiences were.
Totally realizing this is likely not the same thing at all, but my phono preamp allows me to add lots of gain to my MM cartridge output, and there is a difference in the system and I can find just the right spot, and vary that output spot if a record is mastered lower or higher than others. A nice tool.

Good recommandation, Denon cartridge sound better with Denon StepUp! found one from Japan on ebay! very happy with that! @weedeewop great recommandation!
but the mm, must be dead quiet, and Turntable to, the step also bring that noise up to!
Between switch step up and knob adjustment, better knob for fine tuning!
if no money to go with expensive phono preamp, go/try with Fosi Box 5, 125$ cheap and with the ZH3 (akm chip, on my computer great match with my Meze) or ZA3, you will have a power surge system on a UPS when the grid is down, power surge happen here often!

I exclusively use SUT’s in my rig. Currently, I have no choice, my RADA phono stage has exactly one MM 47k input. Not that it would matter. I have used an SUT with many preamps with MC inputs, and always preferred the SUT/MM vs the MC input with the phono preamps I’ve had available to me
Pros and cons depending on your perspective. I like having a transformer made to the specifications of my carts. My 3 SUTs are all geared to low output/ low impedance carts, my preference in carts. So more cables, more devices, more money, more obsessing…
Cheaply made SUT’s can of course, add hum, but the right one, wound by the right person, can produce magic, and, hey, who doesn’t like a few extra pieces of iron around!

I’m thinking of trying one. Bob will wind to suit my cart. A new toy couldn’t hurt. (and I have cables lying around that need to work for a living)
