Anyone having issues with a noisy channel on the BHK preamp

THANKS. my problem was fixed last fall. the team there is great. i could have sworn that the boards were no longer removable and i think mine are not, but i am glad you are getting it fixed. They really are a great company

Hi Luca,
I was never able to get the noise to go away with the 6/7 volt tubes. It’s been just fine with the 12v tubes so far. I got some matched JJ ones from Tubedepot but plan on trying some different variations of 12v for fun.
Are you having noise issues with 12v tubes or just the 6/7v ones?
Cheers,
Gregory

Thank you. I realized that is a matter of board, the little one behind tubes. Swapped them left right, noise went away from left speaker to the right speaker. Here is the problem. As for tubes I use the stock 12v and tried also to replace them with a same model pair matched. Do you have some model to suggest 12v less noisy as possible?

If you have a bad board then swapping tubes won’t help. Replacing the bad board will solve your problem.

You might try cleaning the noisy board pins with a pencil eraser and plugging it back in. Or check the pins to see if one is obviously bent. PSA may send you a new board to swap out if you ask them. It is an aggravating situation but once you get it sorted out you will love the preamp.

Thank you all, I asked to @scotte1 and @jamesh for a new board in order to replace the bad one I have. I would soon enjoy this wonderful system at its high performance as possible… after months waiting for delivery and now waiting for this issue I hope to solve. Hey guys we are living terrible pandemic drama, we must be grateful everyday for our health and our family and our job and so on… what does it count a board?!? Full of patience and with a smile on my face I’m waiting for PS Audio confirmation of the replacement. Keep in touch, I’ll give you the notice when all ok. Thank you again.

@scottm: See previous message.

FYI.

i’m so sorry, I was referring to Scott McGowan, of course. I apologize for the mistake.

No apology necessary…

I just wanted to make sure Mr. McGowan was in the loop.

Good luck resolving your issue(s) and be well.

Scott

You are a wise man to see the big picture. I know how hard and frustrating it can be when our audio systems do not work or are not sounding right. They are such an integral part of the lives of so many of us and it helps me at least, during these most challenging times to get through it with my sanity and soul intact. I really hope you will let us all know how it goes and when the unit is fixed. Good luck

Dear @kent-tager trust in me, I was a different man 16 month ago, before pandemic. Probably in this case i would be disappointed and frustrating, and accusing PS Audio and so on. IIive in Bergamo (Italy) if you remember last march our little town became famous all over the world, much than Whuan. You probably seen pictures of military tanks full of coffins in a queu. Here my little town. And this is the reason why we all must change our life after all terrific situation. We all desire health, love, friends, music (great one with great sound!), wine, food (italian), smile, sun, serenity… we all desire life! That’s just the first step, put things at their right order of importance. Thank you all.

One of my tube servo boards went bad… had to replace the defective board. All good now!

A lot of Italians here! It’s a pleasure guys.

I’m sorry @KenHarris didn’t have soon obtained the part requested, anyhow when it arrived ithe issue was fixed, if I understand well.

Good news. Steve from PS Audio is so kind to ship the board to be replaced. I can really say I appreciate so much how Steve, @jamesh, Travis and @scottm took care of my trouble. Prompt answers, several emails to give me support investigating on possible remedies, and finally time solving decision, even if we have 8 hours of difference. Great service, great product, great people! THANK YOU!

I’ll post you all my final thoughts as soon as the board will be replaced and (hopefully finger crossing) I will be able to fully enjoy at its high performance my brand new gear. To be continued…

Interesting. I had the same issue last year. Swapping the board moved the noise left to right or vise versa. Contacted and asked PS Audio to send me the board, but they denied. I had to send my BHK Pre for repair. It’s taken care of in the end.
I wonder why is the support inconsistent.
