Anyone try the stellar m700's with Salon2's

Hello all,
I actually am auditioning a Steller 300 to use as a sep amp through my Anthem 1120 as the pre amp for 2.0 listening only. I will use the pass through on the Anthem to have the sound un processed. I then have my Schiit Yiggy As my my DAC. I am running this through a Revel speaker set up. My front R/L speakers are Revel Performa 206’s. Not in the same league as the Salons, but very good for the price. I am also noticing that the top end is very harsh? I am currently not using my Anthem ((out for repairs). So now I am using an old Adcom 555ii Pre amp through the 300.
I am running the pre amp from the un touched out puts.
Maybe Revel does not play well with digital amps? Or maybe as some one mentioned it is the matching of Pre amp to amp?

Regards,
Jeff

Welcome! If the S300 is new, you’ll need to get a number of hours on it for those highs to settle down. This is a massive blanket statement, but the S300 tends to fair better with bookshelf speakers as opposed to floor standers. The S300’s sound characteristics complement bookshelf’s strengths and weaknesses. The M700s still do darn well with bookshelf speakers, but if someone calls up and tells me they have towers, I really try and urge them to the 700s.

Hello James,
Thanks for the quick reply! I do have over 100+ hours on the amp. So what you are saying is that I should probably send back the 300, and purchase the 700s? If I do this will I still get the same tonal qualities as the 300 or will it be another level completely including the highs and mids? I really would like to know especially if I am paying 2 x the price? Your guidance is greatly appreciated!

Jeff

Hey Jeff, yes if you’re budget will allow for it, it is absolutely a worth while upgrade! Tonally, the M700s are much more balanced. Highs are very present but not exaggerated. Lows are deep, powerful, and controlled without being bloated. If you’re able to pull it off soon, I’d absolutely recommend the 700s with your Performa 206’s.

Hello James,
Ok, I am going to call your service dept and arrange a swap for the 700s. I have read nothing but rave reviews. Thanks again for your assistance.
