Will Overture be doing an in home set-up for you as well?
No I’ll be doing the setup which is really simple with Rega gear. I’ve already installed the cart using the super cool custom torque wrench that Rega provides. Also, I just purchased the Rega force gauge which is a nice tool.
Good to know, yes Rega set-up is ezy-peazy. I recall the Rega rep at Axpona insisting on in home set-up upon delivery, a service included with the Naia.
I’m excited for you! I find Gandy’s follow no one approach very appealing.
Full review please.
The Naia will also receive the Groovetracer counter weight (image below) and a Herbie’s mat (can’t tolerate the felt mat).
I’m also planning to replace the somewhat cheesy cartridge “tags” with the Cardas Rhodium plated terminals (much more robust and a solid, positive connection).
I haven’t seen this before. Wouldn’t replacing a round weight with this have the potential to affect the azimuth?
And my Linn felt mat tore the cantilever off my cartridge when lifting a 45 off. The expletives flew for days.
There’s a Japanese paper mat, coated with the saliva of a 25 year old beauty queen that you can buy from Stein for around $350.
And there’s this Teac version with the saliva of the runner up that you can buy for $30.
It really does sound nice.
The Groovetracer counter-weight is under hung to improve tracking. Moving the center of mass down apparently assists with that and there’s a Delrin piece that decouples the weight from the arm.
I also think it looks very cool and Frank Smilley makes some of the most beautiful machined pieces for Rega TTs.
The Groovetracer counterweight really does work well. And I hate mats. . . I use the Groovetrace Delrin platter and no mat is required. A plus!!
No Achromat? I found the Achromat to be a serious improvement for my P8. I agree on no felt mat, dust magnet, and sonically squelches the dynamics.
It’s my second fave behind the cheap paper thingy–see above.
For thirty bucks try the Teac.
I have the Channel Island w/ power supply as well. I recently had it in for a few days while waiting for the RADA to arrive.
It’s really a nicely built, versatile phono stage that doesn’t embarrass itself swimming with much pricier units. You’ve got an under the radar keeper!
Fremer did a review a while back…
Big Stack Auva component isolator fan here.
I tried their record mat and record weight which they say they engineered using their LP-12: wow, great!
After a few weeks, I took advantage of their return policy. The only change i noticed was somewhat deeper bass at the sad expense of bass definition. Real bass has leading edge definition, doncha know.
What were they thinking? Their demo/reference system is a bit on the “light” side from what I understand.
What a beautiful thread here, congrats! I needed a break from digital! I’m breathing for a while.
Unfortunately I became so lazy and lost my vinyl habits. I was using the Stellar Phono and loved it. So I decided a downsize was a good idea.
Having a Gold Note Mediterraneo TT with a Donatello Gold MC cartridge, I opted for a PH-10 phono of the same brand as a logical solution. The rare times I use it I’m very happy.
I waited for years the new PS phono designed by Darren Meyers, maybe since 2021 if memory serves me well. Also the bigger Gold Note PH-1000 was in my wish list, which many consider a top notch phono pre.
Anyhow it’s always magic spinning a record, I’d have to do it more often!
I too had the SPP for a while. Huge bang for the buck. Did not care for the led’s or the pots on the rear, or the remote
I asked a few months ago about the status of the new phono on the dedicated thread, I believe Paul mentioned spring 2025. I may still try one when they launch…
I enjoy everything about buying and spinning vinyl, all of the effort is worth it! Interesting that you went with the Italian goods🙂
For all Phono and Grimm lovers on the forum: their new phono pre amp is available.
The article is in Dutch, but I’m sure it can easily be translated for the curious:
Is it as good as their digital products? We will find out soon enough.
Anyway, the price seems right!
