No, we haven’t any show plans. We’re still worried about subjecting our folks to CoViD.
Yes, and it’s looking now like 2022 won’t be the “back to normal” year everyone had hoped for.
Just a few dumb questions, but don’t we usually use two speakers? Are the calculators for power requirements/dB for one speaker? Are the outputs from two speakers additive in the listening room? If I can get to 100dB with one speaker, would a pair get me to possibly 105?
Amps are usually spec’d at “watts per channel” so if you have a 100 watt amp it is 100 watts on each channel’s output.
Yes, but speaker sensitivity is for one speaker - not a stereo pair.
No…
To produce an increase of +3 dB you need twice the power in watts.
Assuming a second speaker produces exactly the same sound pressure level as the first, adding a second speaker would add 3dB.
That always seemed a bit of a ripoff that +3dB required 2x the power. Especially where +10db is more what “sounds like” twice as loud.
Doesn’t matter to me. At 100db, I’ve already left the room.
True dat👊🏻
Doesn’t seem very intuitive to me. Turn on one 60 watt light. Then turn on a second 60 watt light. Pretty much twice as bright. I guess it’s that logarithmic dB thing that’s different with sound? So feeding one speaker 100 watts, and then adding another speaker with 100 watt input is the same as having 200 watts into a single speaker- a 3dB gain?
Sorry if I have a 5 watt brain today.
I was thinking the same thing. Seems sorta like two 100w lightbulbs, x feet apart in a room. Not quite the same as a single source with a 200w light bulb (or whatever watts are required for 2x light. I should know that🤷🏻♂️)
It is not.
FYI…Let’s see if this works. Measured light (at the same distance) is additive but perception is per the formula. Measured light does follow the inverse square law (with distance) like so many things in nature.
like so many of my past relationships
And let’s not forget about solid angle or steradians for measuring light density. We all live in three dimensions after all.
Lumens, lux, I sure have forgotten a lot. Anyway, as Jimmy Buffet says, “math sucks”.
I am hopeful that we will follow the trend of several other countries in that a spike in cases will go as quickly as it comes, but might be a difficult 3 to 4 weeks.
At the same frequency with both sources arriving at the listening position in phase.
Music rarely works this way unless you’ve summed both channels to mono and made sure to adjust arrival times. Anywhooo… theoretical vs. what is really happening at your listening position.
I’m happy with the single speaker measurements at 1m. I don’t want manufacturers publishing results I have no way of reproducing.
But, it begs the question… Is PS shipping matched pairs or do the tolerances not cause a need for this. I know most high-end speakers are only shipped as a pair because the driver response is selected and matched between the two. That might be marketing BS but of the very few drivers I’ve purchased in my life all of them were serial number very close together and only sold as a pair and repaired as a pair.
So does gravity
