rayk saidFair enough I missed a critical word - voluntarily. However I still believe it is prudent of businesses to keep their charities to themselves or anticipate pissing off some people. Even something like the environment, although you’d think we’d all be for it, I could see PSA losing at least one potential customer, Scott Pruit (head of dismantling the EPA). One man’s charity is another man’s political target.
We already agreed that involving PSA in picking the charity could be a problem. But I have seen a number of businesses offer a list of say 4 or 5 charities, that you could pick from. Anyone who was offended by those on the list would have to be a world class ass. I am as liberal as it gets, and I never was offended by any of the charities on those lists. And offending Pruit would be a bonus. How anyone, but especially those with children could have a problem with protecting the planet they live on is beyond me. They might be offended by the particular charity, say Greepeace for example. But none of that is going to happen.
And like I said it has already been decided not to involve PSA in choosing or dealing with the donations in any way. And you somehow got it in your head, that Irwin and those that thought it a good idea, somehow wanted to make it mandatory. It will never happen.
I take it by your avatar that you are a fan of the Grateful Dead. There was a period where the band was actively promoting a charity. It has been many years, and I have cooked a lot of brain cells, so all I remember was a symbol with a eye it was something like Seve[sp and name may be incorrect].
Phil actively promotes organ donation at every show he plays, do you think that lost him any fans? Damn, that might be something PSA customers could do, as not all have been to see bands that Phil Lesh has played in.
Hey everyone, if you haven’t done it sign the organ donation line on your drivers license or state ID. If you are younger, and have a fatal accident, your no longer needed organs could save a bunch of peoples lives, extend lives, or help someone who is blind to see. The older we get, the less some of our parts are viable.
I was listed as an organ donor long before Phil started promoting it. For those who don’t know a young man named Cody, had told his Mother that if anything happened to him, he wanted to be an organ donor. His selfless act saved a bunch of lives, including Phil’s, he got the liver. As Phil says, it can be as simple as telling your family, loved ones, or even a close friend that “if anything happens to me I want to be an organ donor”. That is something we can all do, and it won’t cost you anything, or interfere with your FREE updates.
I think if anyone decides to make a donation, or sign your organ donation card Start a new Topic saying I made a donation in PSAs honor. After that first post anyone else who does the same, can add their name in the same topic. Indicating the charity could be optional. We wouldn’t want to alienate Scott Pruit, while he and his cronies are out there trying to dismantle safety regulations, and sell off our national parks and landmarks.
Ray, you don’t have to do anything, as this is voluntary. I’m not sure if you are concerned about PSA or just your self. Your objections are noted, and your updates are safe, so you can relax.
