Bridge III?

We will do our best to include a Roon endpoint in Bridge III.

Paul, that makes sense…Roon has a dedicated following and if your new product is superior people will change on their own

Counted me in on a Bridge III

Any progress update on Bridge III?

Slow but steady. It’s a long way off into the future.

Thanks Paul!

Bootzilla - In addition to your comment: not going to spend another $500 on buying an iPAD gen 6 to replace my iPAD gen3 just to use Roon; waste of money. I would rather spend the money on the new bridge III. I absolutely love the Mconnect & TIDAL and running my QNAP 251+ w/ 8GB RAM and 8TB of ā€œIron Wolfā€ Seagate drive. The Mconnect is not perfect; has some glitches and issues that are very minor when not having to spend a dime setting up the NAS that took 10min. Just hope TIDAL does not go under cause of the money spent on MQA, not a fan… Paul has to get the studio up and running so we get to buy SACDs (DSD). The PS Audio DMP is unbelievable, Ted Smith knocked it out of the park… genius

It’s exciting to,hear about this. As a lifetime Roon subscriber I’m dismayed to learn that bridge iii will not be Roon ready. Roon and DS are the best things in my music listening life right now, especially because of tidal integration and all the playlists etc I’ve already created for listening. Recreating those lists would be a nightmare and regardless of the benefits of a new system, be a big deterrent in adoption for people like me. Especially because they would be exponentially bigger by the time the new bridge is released. I don’t use the tidal interface directly at all and I hope that’s something that from a user experience issue is taken into account. I also love DSD and I’m assuming the new bridge will do higher rates.

Edit: just saw the post on Roon potentially being supported

Never say never. Let us get closer to see. The problem with making it Roon Ready is we can’t then ensure the user experience and, as we’ve seen, changes on Roon’s side break things for others and we get the grief. Our customers bear the brunt.

In a perfect world we would make Octave good enough you’d never miss Roon and we could guarantee the user experience.

World’s are rarely perfect.

Thanks Paul. As a software engineer myself, I admire the user interface and architecture Roon have created and while I know you guys are amongst the best engineers and software developers around you have never been a software company and creating/recreating an ecosystem is a huge task and takes dedicated resources. It’s the only focus the Roon team has and as a customer I like the coming together of these worlds because I know each of you Is fully dedicated to your world. No world ( including that of Roon ) is perfect but to recreate what Roon has done and do it better is not an easy task. This isn’t skepticism but years of battle scars speaking.

I could not agree more. It’s why we’ve invested (so far) two and a half years and we’re still not there.

I’m in this since June 2012 when I got my PWD and original bridge then upgrade to DS and bridge II. Started to play with upnp/DLNA with an old laptop Wxp then evolved to Android tablet and now I use my Android phone. I think it is a big mistake from PSA to drop support of DLNA/UPNP in this up coming bridge III and the Octave server.
Why?
Well no matter if you like it or not, for good or bad DLNA/UPNP is the world wide defacto standard for networking multimedia. Yes is no perfect but it have improved overtime compared to when I started.
I hope this Octave thing works but then we are going into proprietary software close loop like Apple which is the MAIN reason I don’t buy anything from them. Keeping DLNA/UPNP as an option (like a on/off switch) will enable customers to use it if for some reason they don’t like Octave more.
Not every one like the same things that’s why I like to have options, that why I love open architecture like Android, Linux and PC’s. And yes you have good and bad options but at last YOU (and no one else) take the decision of what you want.

I haven’t read all of this thread yet but I have some questions and the first is:
I do the transcoding in my NAS using minimserver, how this will work with the new bridge III?
Hope someone answer this.

PS: I also remember that PSA had a software (don’t remember the name) that ended not so well and PSA abandoned it, hope this don’t happen again.

The name was eLyric, and I don’t think they like being reminded of the experience. They have moved on since then.

Bridge III running Octave software is a very different animal from Bridges I and II. It is basically a server on a card. It should be able to connect to a NAS over Ethernet but there is really no need for it to be UPnP compatible. If you do need a UPnP connection for some reason, you can stick with Bridge II or any number of third party devices. You’ll still have lots of connection choices.

Well at least they have learned something from that… If not, they will crash in the same wall again.
Hope they listen to us and add options like DLNA, just in case any one needs it. As I say no every one like the same things and I don’t like people say me ā€œoh you will like itā€ without even knowing me.
For example MY favorite control is Bubble UPNP and I have tested almost all comtrols including mcontrol and still think NO one is better for me than Bubble UPNP. That’s me, YMMV.

+1 on Bubble and open architecture. However if Bridge III supports both Qobuz and Tidal I’ll pull the trigger. Very much like the usb-hdd capability :slightly_smiling_face:

The horse has bolted from the open architecture stable, long ago. Closed is the way to go for this product.

Why don’t have both? If you have to buy a new laptop and the store offer one with only wifi and another with wifi, Ethernet and USB, wich one you prefer?
What is the reason for Android to be the most dominant OS in the world? Is not because it s pretty or fancy, not even the most perfect (if perfect ever exist), is because people (EVERY ONE) have the opportunity to CHOICE haw they want IT ether in a inexpensive device or in a beautiful fancy and expensive one. They can have it vanilla or custom.
There is people here asking for Roon to be included and is ok, well I don’t like Roon but I like my present set up and it run with DLNA and it WORKS. So everyone have a reason to stick to whatever they LIKE, and that’s something every one most respect.
I don’t know if I would like Octave, but I know that I worked hard to get my present set up to work and I LIKE IT.

Well, all I can say is the only way you are going to get me to try Octave is if I can use the new card with Roon. Otherwise, I will stick with the Bridge II card. If I feel like Bridge II card owners are being left behind, I will likely scrap it and go with a Roon endpoint (probably with I2S out).

I’m 100% behind their decision to go closed ecosystem with Octave. Reason being, I am a Kaleidescape system owner, and Kaleidescape is a closed ecosystem. So I have seen first hand the benefits a closed ecosystem brings to this HiFi caper. Assuming of course PS Audio have the chops to build it right.
