Because it’s evident, black sounds better, hence has a superior value!
Parasound. I owned amps from their HCA and HALO lines.
I agree with @davida about the liquid sound. They drove Focal and Vandersteen speakers (before I reached true enlightenment with KEF speakers).
*Parasound’s previous web site version was vastly superior (elegant with loads of white space) to the current version but new ownership, etc.
This Mirage model has a minimum impedance of 4ohm, so I don’t think you need tons of current, though some is needed, more watts are needed because of the low sensitivity. I would look for used M1200’s.
Just to throw out another alternative, I would highly recommend taking a look at the Anthem STR power amp. They pop up on the used market here n there but that amp has a ton of power and will work on about any speaker.
Thanks for all the good ideas and topics above.
I ended up pulling the trigger on a new set of Wyred 4 Sound SX-1000R since they had a 40% off holiday discount. They are monoblocks, each rated at about 1200W/ 4ohm. They had some nice reviews, though probably not as nice as the M1200s…but for a $2160 new for their specs, being made in USA, and a 5year warranty, it was too good to resist.
More SX-1000R details here.
Don’t sell the SX 1000R short!
I have a wyred4sound STP SE Stage 2 preamp that is absolutely amazing
transparent, reveals minutest detail, delicately presented micro dynamics
with crushing FFF …
Cannot say enough for EJ Sarmiento…makes designs and builds great product!!!
And he designed and built your SX 1000Rs…Enjoy them…
Fwt they do require burn in…I just don’t know how long…just be patient
with the ensuing up and downs of the burn in process…when they settle in
you are in for a long time treat!!!
Congrats
By the way which preamp are you using?
Best wishes
Wow, that is great to hear.
I actually spoke to EJ and he was super knowledgeable and humble. He told me that the amp would require about 100 hours of play time before it sounded “broken in”.
Looking back on it, i thought EJ was incredibly knowledgeable and i even complimented him for being so. I had not known he was also the designer, but that figures clearly now!
For my Preamp i am just using an Eversolo DMP A6. It’s relatively inexpensive but it does a great job streaming and playing from its onboard SSD. At some point I may need to invest in a true preamp, but I do think subwoofers will be next project once my hobbies slush fund recovers.
Hey CT…
Thought you might like this Absolute Sound read on the SX1000R

So very nice of you to share that. I enjoyed reading it!
The amps are on backorder but i think i will get them before Christmas. I’ll keep you updated once i get them running and burned in.
Glad you enjoyed reading the article…
It would be great if you would give us a from the git go cold out of the box
impression and then as progressively as burn in take hold, oughta be
fun and interesting…
Best wishes
I received the amplifiers in a well packaged shipment. They are approximately 13lbs each and it was very easy to set up. Fit and finish was significantly better/nicer than the adcom gfa 5800 that they replace.
The XLR and speaker connections are top shelf for this range. The cases are solidly constucted and they are half as wide as a standard rack amp, or about the same width (together).
Versus my Adcom, the initial sound review was a significant improvement. Sound separation and clarity was superior. Bass management was tighter though could be played louder without distortion.
After 30 hours of burn in, the sound is smoothing overall, and the overall volume levels seem to be much stronger than previous amp. I guess it should be so, as the amp has 600+w per channel into 8ohms vs previous amp was 250+w per channel into 8ohms. The W4S amp doubles into 4ohms, can swing 40amps per channel, and is stable to 2ohms.
I also found the company’s client service to be excellent. I called with some technical questions and was received by none other than EJ Sarmiento, owner, who was extremely knowledgeable and courteous.
At this point, i can say that i am happy with the purchase and would do it all over again.
PS: i also spoke to folks at Magnepan and they said these amplifiers are one of their favorites and highly recommended.
Way to go!!!
What an Christmas early gift!!!
Now keep us posted as the hours of burn in increase…okay?
Merry Christmas

I’m feeding my Orchard Audio Strakrimson Ultra with a BHK Preamp. It’s an excellent combo.
That’s an excellent combo. A friend of mine is doing the same. I used to run a BAT VK50-SE but now use a Black Ice Audio Aries.
the Wyred 4 Sound SX-1000R has now broken in and it is delightfully detailed and sends dynamics like i have not heard before. I’ve updated my setup to use 15’ XLR balanced cables and have situated the monoblocks close to the speakers. I’m using 7awg bi-wire cables (3’) from the monoblocks to the speakers.
The grip and control of these amps are spectacular.
Ah haaa …as expected!! The W4S Stage 2 preamp is
in my usage proven to be exactly what your new
SX 1000 R is giving you nothing short of amazing…
Should you be considering a new preamp…then by all means
get the W4S Stage 2 preamp…just click the stage 2 option.
Merry Christmas
