This isn’t really an answer to your question, but putting a Matrix X-SPDIF 2 ( Matrix Audio - X-SPDIF 2 (matrix-digi.com)) in my system made a much bigger difference than the Corning USB 3.Optical cable did. People also advise all manner of further improvements for the Matrix (external power supplies, cable upgrades…) but those can be incremental improvements depending on your budget, etc. ( Matrix X-SPDIF 2 - Accessories and Tweaks - PS Audio)
