Did the PMG line just increase by $500?

Yes, absolutely. Anyone having placed a deposit will be honored at the original price.

Yup, and I don’t know about where you live but has anyone else noticed the price increase of food at restaurants and take out joints? It’s nearly doubled. Three of us went out for Mexican food on Cinco De Mayo and got Chile reanos, rice and beans and a fountain drink. $75! Holy moly!

Lots of strong but startlingly myopic opinions expressed on this topic of tariffs here.

Best work-around? Purchase quality used components at a fraction of the cost of new! :detective:

It is an understandably emotional issue for many.

I have to go in 3 days a week post covid now, and I am trying to avoid going out for lunch now. its $15-20 for a sandwich or something simple now. Sit down is $20 plus tip. Crazy. Brown bagging it never looked so good. Need all that saved money for this silly hobby.

You guys are very lucky. You’re just now seeing the effects of inflation on food where most of the country have been suffering from it for several years.

The risk in raising prices is related to the elasticity of business offerings.

Eating out, our hobby, etc are “luxuries” unlike say gasoline or health care.

We have been hit with significant inflation in recent years

On one of my businesses, we import and sell hobby related items. We decided to absorb the impacts of inflation, tariffs, etc. on most products, others we looked for alternatives.

That alone is concerning.. businesses should be free to breakdown prices for their consumers. It’s the very definition of transparency lol.

(not a political comment on my part) if you are going to be “apolitically transparent” then list not only impact of tariffs, show state and local taxes, regulations, excise taxes and markups.

Also, stuff already here has not been impacted by any tariffs (yet)

(just the perspective of a CPA, forensic accountant and business owner)

I’m all for that lol. I saw some of that at places. Taxes are broken down on the invoice, what I don’t see is the governor threatening the business for doing it.

I agree. It is a global environment now more than ever. US made products are great but my eyes have been opened by the great stuff world wide! We discussed Alvin from LHY and his other product lines are affordable, high quality, great performance imo all made in Asia. I’m pretty sure that all cars made in America have very few American parts inside I’m guessing hifi is no different.

Thats not what I meant…its been going up to that point the whole post covid thing. I do not think we have seen the tariff spike on food…yet. its coming.

On our store (located in the USA but not in CONUS) we get complaints from customers saying they can purchase at lower prices in CONUS. We listed the MSRP (which by contract we cannot discount), added a line for the excise taxes and value added taxes. Funny how the conversation changed.

We had a (not) nice visit from the government complaining about this followed by several audits and additional “fees”. Most recent one, there was a government bucket truck measuring our sign to ensure we are paying the proper sign tax… (*never mind we had to go through permitting when installing it).

We reminded them that we (as a business) have to pay excise and value added taxes but online sellers are not. Thats a disadvantage of 19.7%

(but i digressed)

In my book, this is a big part of the “covid” effect on prices. Prices went up due to supply say 60%, then came down only 40% … just made up numbers to put my point across, but its happened and continues to happen. Many large corporations have taken advantage of the moment and made record profits. That is not political, its capitalism. What will stop it? stop buying it. That is one lesson the US Buyers should learn from all this, look at Tesla. The power of the people is very very powerful. If we dont buy it, the price will come down…

Sorry to hear your troubles. Government bullying is not right, at any level :frowning:

Ouch, but not the first time I have read something like that. I know AirBNB added tax in MA at least due to the hotels complaining why do we have to pay it and they don’t. probably not what renters wanted to happen, but it did.

We should expect significant price volatility for a while. Prices could be adjusted frequently, both up and down, based on latest developments. Some vendors do not list prices at all (‘call us for a price’) or stopped US sales for the time being. Challenging times for vendors, but hopefully it stabilizes in some months.

Are you saying it’s time to buy a Tesla? Minus the crazies trying to destroy them I’d kind of enjoy the self driving mode and no gas station visits. Maybe I’m the crazy one.
