Thank you, I’ll take look!
You are welcome.
Good luck.
On reading the Etheregen page at Uptone it looks like the TP Link MC220L would be the correct SFP connection. Uptone claims no improvement using fiber but if I can improve (or not) my BridgeII for a few dollars it’s worth a try.
I just finished applying 3M EMI treatment to BridgeII chips and underneath lid of DSD Sr over the Bridge, which made a nice improvement to tone.
I found that using fiber to the EtherRegen did, in fact, result in an improvement. I also found that using better ethernet cables from the EtherRegen to the Bridge II brought improvements. As did putting a better power supply on the EtherRegen. I would suggest all these things are worth a try, if you can swing it, starting with the fiber tweak given it is relatively inexpensive.
For the record, I’m using a DS Jr., not a Sr.
For what its worth my DS has the Edcor transformer modification and is powered via isolation transformer. Both these changes have a huge effect on the sound quality. Yes I have other mods…SR Orange fuse(s), power cables, interconnects etc but these 2 changes have had the most impact on the SQ. My DAC is fitted with a Bridge II and I must use it 90% of the time with a Roon backend vs. the DMP via I2S (Audioquest Diamond IC). I measure SQ simply how by much music I Iisten to, has my musical horizons been widened or challenged and how much enjoyment I have had.
Put simply, I adore my Bridge II…oooh and my ipad
Thanks BK_A, I will try the TP Link MC220L conversion to fiber into Etheregen as a next step. Some of the Linear Power Supplies are out of stock currently anyway (eg Uptone, HDPlex), so that would have to wait.
Stuarth, I just completed the Edcor 4400 upgrade to DSD myself this last weekend so it is just settling in. I would be interested to learn more about your modification to power it via isolation transformer, if you can share?
No alchemy…simply my power distro feeds my power amplifiers (Bel Canto ref600m) and network equipment direct from house mains and then all signal electronics and preamp (Bel Canto pre 3 vbs) are powered via a 1KVA medical isolation transformer - this way there is no DC on the mains, pretty much no RF to haze it up and as near perfect lowpassed sinewave.

Stuarth, got it, thank you for sharing. Similar duty served for me by a PSA P20.
I have both the $25 type Ethernet to Fiber converter and the very very expensive Sonore item that does the same. I am not certain I can hear a difference. Not certain does not equal no difference. But it could suggest it.
I have two inputs to my DS {some of you just shuddered}. Both use Roon as a source {insert more shuddering}.
Roon —> UniFi Core Switch —> Fiber —> UniFi Switch mounted under our media cabinet —> Ethernet —> DS
Roon Rock —> Ethernet —> UniFi Core Switch —> Fiber —> UniFi Switch mounted under our media cabinet —> fiber —> opticalRendu —> USB —> KTE SU-2 —> I2S —> DS
Drumroll … It’s a tie. They both sound good.
I’ve also tried powering the media cabinet switch via our P10 and a Transparent Audio Powerwave. Once again a tie.
Moral of my story: I need to try something else in lieu of the opticalRendu. Perhaps the Sonore Signature Rendu SE.
I have just what you need in a small movable box.
Do tell?
Tell hell, I’ll show you.
That poor fella is gaining weight hanging around here.
I think he’s still waiting to see what Al is gonna show us.
He’s going to show me a box via UPS with stuff in it.
