I’m actually looking to put my turntable on an IKEA item- a sturdy old dresser. Cautiously optimistic!
For a suspended turntable, the less mass the support has the better.
Another suggestion for isolation of the turntable, replace the feet with some isolators like some ISOAcoustics Orea Bronze ISO Acoustics OREA Bronze (Silver) (richersounds.com)
I did that on my rega to reduce footfall and totally eradicated it. Also made improvements in other areas I wasn’t expecting. These are quite a premium option, someone else may know of something a little more inviting cost wise.
But also, with any analogue setup, it’s well worth investing in a good stand, they range hugely in cost, but it’s worth spending a bit on them. Mine for instance includes RF protective and heat resistant glass shelves, and looks beautiful as well. There are good low cost options out there, just takes some hunting.
Obviously all this adds to cost.
Hello folks -
Bumping this topic, which I originally posted in January. It was in regards to a humming/moaning sound from my ELAC speakers which playing vinyl at a high volume through the Sprout 100.
I took the advice of moving my turntable to a more stable surface (off the previous shelf it shared with the speakers.
Unfortunately, with some records, usually during low musical parts of songs, the hum emerges with playing at high volumes.
Please find attached video illustrating the hum sound and pictures of my setup. The first quick video is of my setup. The second is a demonstration of the issue, courtesy of the new Thick as a Brick remix. Both are iCloud links from iPhone video.
Will take any expert advice y’all may have. Thanks!
If the video links don’t work please let me know - thanks!
It sounds like that hum is present at lower volumes as well. How is your ground? Any overlapping cables?
So my Fluance turntable is properly grounded to my Sprout. However, my cables can admittedly be better organized.
And yes, the sound only happens when the music level of certain (not all) albums is low. So it’s a certain frequency, I guess.
Another thing I should mention is that the system is located in the corner of a large, unfinished basement.
Any other opinions based on the sound in the video/my setup? Thank you!
