Forced out of this hobby that I've enjoyed for 50 years

When you call and ask about shipping cost, make sure to ask if they accept returns on refurbished gear !!!

My son has a pair of the Focal Aria, I think the 836, could be wrong
and they sound wonderful at that price point. much better than the equivalent B&W 700 series.

If you perform a “fr20” search on the forum, you can find a thread that you started with all sorts of good info describing how music sounds with the FR20’s. Clean, open, pure, dynamic, with magical imaging. But, as several people have mentioned, giving up might not be the best move. You can experiment with your speakers, and also try other music. The “dig” cd by Boz Scaggs is a classic and worth getting, even at $30 for the cd. If a CD with music that sounds THAT good sounds bad on your system, then giving up on your speakers may be more justifiable.

Boz Scaggs Dig for $30 CD?? Is this good advice? Yikes. $10 or less on discogs your welcome.

Welcome to the world of out-of-print cd’s. Try to find Felix Laband’s album “Dark Days Exit’ on cd or the album " Shabrang” by Sevdaliza on cd. $30 for an unused classic Boz Scaggs cd is a relative bargain.

Experimenting with other music, doesn’t really solve much if it isn’t what I enjoy

But gets you to the next step. Maybe you don’t enjoy high-end audio. Maybe under $1000 speakers would make you happier.

$11 shipped I was wrong.

$4 for the disc, $7 for shipping

That size and weight of media mail should be just under $5. However, standard shipping via USPS for a 1 pound package is like $10 bucks! Shipping has gone mad.

interesting, i did enjoy my 802d’s for 20+ years before I started to want to change things up.

actually a typo, I bought them in 2005, so it was closer to 20 years.

They are not perfect, neither is my room, neither are my electronics, neither are my recordings
But, overall, they are the most satisfying that I’ve owned thus far.

I can sympathize. I’ve been using the same speakers for about 15 years, Decware HR-1 (have two pair in use in two systems). I am completely in thrall to their sound and presentation, have heard other speakers, had a few here in the home demoing in comparison to mine for others, and I just don’t have speaker envy–these omnidirectional/directional speakers are right for me, and my rooms.

But can you find the Sevdaliza or Felix Laband cd’s?

TMR has a Certified Pre-owned per of FR20’s for sale, but you will have to talk the them about their return policies.

I have mentioned this on multiple occasions. I have given up.

There’s a point where the speakers are NOT the problem - this is it.

You are right, speakers are just one part of the system. There are the other parts like room treatment, Electronics and the part that made or break a system, the cables and accesories.
My system sounds just OK without all these unseen parts.

As I mentioned before, I use to hate the sound of most CDs and SACDs. Too bright, hard, and sibilance with my old Marantz SACD player. It doesn’t matter what speakers I use. The PS Audio was better but still, not as good as vinyl. With the Playback Design, now digital is equal to vinyl in getting rid of hardness and sibilance. Really bad recordings will still be hard to listen to, but a lot more tolerable. Good speakers only reveals the front end accurataly. Highs should sound pure and real. Mids should sound rich and full of body, Lows should sound tight and powerful, just like in real life. If you get all the parts right, you should acheive a lot of that goal of sounding live.
