Without getting political, the last couple of years I have found myself listening to the Audio feed of tv news (not the video) on SiriusXM for hours each evening, rather than listen to my system.
Has anyone else found current events to influence their listening habits?
On 11/09/18 I dropped Facebook w/ 5,000 friends. I have not watched one second of anything on TV remotely connected w/ politics. I read, listen to music and spend massive time with my sweetheart. I have so much time for things I love instead of things that I am expected to pay attention to these days. The best invention of the 20th century is the answering machine that is verbal⦠if I donāt know the person on the other end, I donāt answer the call⦠in addition I have 5,675 messages a year that I donāt bother to listen to. In addition I have a wrought iron gate at the end of the courtyard; however, the door bell is at the door. Good luck banging on the gate, we donāt hear and it hurts you hand. All of this because we are sick of being baraged with massive noise every day. We make choices as to who accesses us, not the other way around⦠and it has been a wonderful 6 months of peace and quit.
I started a Facebook account in ~2008 but only kept it for a few weeks. I could see right away that there was nothing for me to gain and lots of time to lose.
We no longer have a land line connection at home that gets answered. All calls go to voice mail. Very few people have my cell info. The line at work only gets answered if the caller ID is a known trusted source or else it goes to voicemail. I donāt have time in my life to listen to a bunch of scammers I do not know.
I listen to music more and TV less. My wife still watches a lot of TV but mostly Nat Geo, Travel, Documentaries, Romance shows. Not much news at all. Local news only.
I listen to talk radio in the morning with my coffee. The rest of the day is music in the house and in the car. I may turn on Netflix at night. The news just seems like a complaining loop that never changes or ends. I have been listening to music much more than at any other time in my life. I am 67.
On a ānormalā day I have to work with 2-3 or more TV sets on because of my work. But I totally avoid anything political, or any news outlet, or any social channels that are not music / audio based. We only do music, sports, or educational stuff in this household with music on probably 24/7 or very close to that.
If I want my 12 year old to know about the Chavez/Maduro regime in Venezuela I prefer to give him unbiased info directly from myself. Then quickly change the subject and educate him on everything Jimi Hendrix or Cui/Borodin/Rimsky-Korsakov/Mussorgsky/Balakirev instead. Much more fun indeed.
I rarely watch tv anymore, and certainly not politics when I do. I spend a shitload of money on my stereo and itās on almost all the time. The news is too depressing. And if I knew how to delete my facebook account, I would; I never go there. And I sold all of my Facebook stock because I find them disgusting.
At work, sure. But at home Iām seriously considering a major divestiture of my equipment. I feel like every time I go to listen or pull on the cans I piss somebody off. So, who knows, may be some equipment up for sale soon. Lol
Baseball is what I watch on TV. Been a fan since 10. Going to the grave a fan. Funny thing about watching baseball these days, typically just stream on my iPad mini. Most likely will not put a new TV in the family room when the remodel is done. Trying to ignore the vile part of current culture. Focusing on the good part as much as possible.
Ancient religious text conveys the four tangible characteristics of the soul, one being Music of which the experience can be heard as the sound within, āListen to the Secret Sound, The Real Sound, Which is within inside You.ā - Kabir Music is in our nature, the purity of sound draws us in, SQ is a quest, Politics is down stream, far down streamā¦
