The new DS Mountain Top. Should be out in a couple of weeks.
Iām feeling upgradeitis and have to say Iām sorely tempted by the May with its discrete R2R implementation. Curious about lead time for those who have pulled the trigger. Kitsune claims 5-6 weeks, but there is a also a Chinese New Year disclaimer of an additional 2 weeks. Has anybody had to wait as long as 8 weeks (or longer)?
Talking about holding off, Iām watching and waiting for the right moment to go mirrorless. I have a Nikon D610 starting to get a bit long in the tooth and have been contemplating replacing it. Mirrorless has me keeping my plastic in my wallet as it matures and I become convinced itās time.
My big ergonomic issue recently is that mirrorless DSLR form factor cameras have gotten so good, Iāve had to decide between the traditional pro video camera form factor Iāve always used, and the familiarity with where everything is, and one of the still-camera type bodies. I use these solely as video cameras.
A year ago I got a Panny S1H, but what with one thing and another, never took the time to set it up and learn to use it properly. Did a couple of shoots with it not having a clue, and it looked great. Now that I have a clue, my mind is fairly blown by it.
Ah, no experience with video for me.
It sounds like youāve got the right video camera already.
Still - a big change for an old manš. All of my glass is useless if I switch to L-Mount, as Sony e-mount is not adaptable to L. Though frankly the Sony lenses are not anything to write home about. You sorta would need to go with them if you wanted one of the other strong points of the Sonys - the very fast AF. But again - for my use case - I donāt really NEED superfast autofocus. More of a ānice to haveā. Sadly AF is very bad in video mode on the Panny, except, again with their native glass.
Anyhow - Back to DACs!

What is the Sunlight you speak of, Iām in the dark?
Scroll back an hour.
I ordered my May DAC days before Chinese New Year and got it five weeks later. No drama.
I ordered on the 2nd day of CNY. 5 weeks to the day it arrived. Their estimate was right on.
Sunlight is the name of the next, and last, firmware for the DSD.
An excellent name choice; appealing for its implications of transparent, open, and Sunlight and Windom are peaks in close physical proximity.
I am almost ready to pull the trigger on the Holo Audio, sell my DS mk1, and forget about the DS mk1 to mk2 upgrade and DMP to PST upgrade. It should also be A LOT cheaper.
@brett66 :
1/ do you know if I can I use an hdmi cable to connect my DMP to the Holo Audio? If not, itās ok, I can use AES.
2/ my other source is the matrix with hdmi output, but you confirmed earlier that the Holo Audio will accept hdmi from the Matrix, so that should be ok, right ?
Thank you for your help, Brett.
There are four I2S combinations on the May and one of them is the PSA version so yes on direct connect with the DMP.
Yes to both. The Holo default for HDMI config is the PSAudio āstandardā.
Can the May play the SACD layer off the DMP? I know there is some kind of handshake with the DS and DMP.
I donāt have a DMP so canāt say for sure but I doubt they are violating the Sony restriction.
Thank you Brett and Jack.
The discussion with Ted yesterday was a decisive inflection point.
Alea jacta est.
It will be the Holo Audio May with my DMP. I wonāt buy the DS mk2 and wonāt buy the PST.
I understand the DSD side of the Holo is based on this open hardware source design by none other than the author of HQP Jussi Laako. Denafrips, T+A and others have started with this as well. Now, Iām only repeating what Iāve read on other forums, I donāt have references as the posts Iāve read donāt contain any but thatās the anecdotal take.
