This thread was intended to be specific to the Spring3 DAC. Please take your discussion of the May DAC to the “Holo Audio: one of the best dacs ever?..” thread. Thanks.
Well I have a MAC mini in one system and have the Thumbs up to replace it. Initially as I was getting my feet wet into online streaming and ripping CDs it was a fair starting point. That said the whole experience sonic and iTunes using an iPAD to control a headless MAC mini is as I have said before in this day is a hair shirt experience.
I’ve been running Roon on an i7 MacBook Pro in exclusive mode and have had positive experiences.
Is there something endemic with a Mac I should aware of? I’m considering a dedicated NUC for Roon as a next step experiment.
This would of course connect with the Spring 3 when it arrives in 5-6 weeks. Definitely interested in the Spring 3 head-to-head with the DSD Mk1.
I’m not using Roon, but iTunes, which Apple the changed to a new Apple Music Platform. With Roon it could be improved. Basically in today’s market I could no t recommend purchasing a MAC mini for high end audio playback. My initial experience had been positive but with subsequent Apple OS updates, and abandoning iTunes I found the MAC mini lacking. The transition from iTunes to Apple Music resulted in losing a portion of my album cover art. To add Roon, well I have not tried that approach as I had anticipated the Innuos OS and thought the Roon expenditure to be wasteful. I went with an Innuos Zenith Mk III and overall have been happy with it. I have not decided what I would replace the MAC mini with or if I’d use Roon. To date the Innuos is best off with out Roon based on what i am hearing with Innuos’ new OS. YMMV.
Not that I think I’ll need to replace it anytime soon but what battery is used in the HOLO remote?
And what tool is needed to open the remote up?
I have had no success searching for the answer online.
The remote has four tiny allen bolts to remove the back. Unfortunately I don’t have an allen wrench small enough to take off the back off so I can’t tell you battery type.

Strange that GoldenSound hasn’t published any measurements for his own Spring3
Heaps of measurements available on his website for nearly everything he reviews
Just received a text message from DHL the DAC is on its way estimated Dec 15th.
Nice!! When did you order your Spring L3 KTE? I ordered mine on 11/5.
Mine was ordered Nov-4. Yours has to be next.
Great,thanks!!!
I have had my Holo Spring KTE for about 6 weeks.
It was good at first but I wasn’t expecting what has happened the last week or so.
It is stupidly good now. Hard to believe the transformation.
@st50maint How many hours of use would you estimate to the described transition?
What was your previous DAC?
I estimate it was around 600 hours when I felt that something special was happening.
Also, my unit has the built-in preamp so I could control volume directly into the BHK 300s. It could also be a factor in the breakin process and my perception of the sound.
My previous dac was the PS Audio DSD senior.
It also has the Edcor transformer modification.
What would be your comparison of the DSD Sr. to the Spring 3 KTE? Maybe both initial few hours and now the latest.
She arrived by DHL a day early. Thanks supply chain!
Out of the box the Spring 3 KTE sounds amazing and the it’s easy to hear the potential post break-in. Running tones through it for a couple of hours and listening to music again, and easy to hear it opening up. What hit me the most first listen was the soundstage, and in the early hours of use the bass especially the focus. Listening to a good bass and viscerally hearing the vibrato is wonderful. There is no smear of the image in any manner. Jazz like Bill Evens in DSD256 or Rock in various formats shows the soundstage of this DAC. I prefer it over the DSD Sr. and the DSD Sr. is no slouch. I start to wonder how much information pertaining to focus and articulation might be lost in oversampling?
Looking forward to the Spring 3 DAC unfolding with break-in.
