In search of the great sound stage

He carried the Antileon EVO upstairs by himself. It weighs 220 pounds.

@Aangen
Oh I could do it too—it would just take me 15 to 20 trips.

Don’t mess with George is the moral of the story. He may send Maurice after you.

If you told me I could keep it if I could carry it out I think I could do it. The paramedics wouldn’t be happy about carrying my well over 220lb ass out of your house once I made up stairs.

It requires simple preparation to carry that weight. Go to the gym every day for 10 years where you pick things up and then put them down.

@RonP By then I’ll be 85 and possibly pushing up daisies!

This here tune demonstrates a variant sound stage.

It is on Qobuz and Tidal.

Update: First I listened to this with BACCH. It was intensely unusual. A minute ago I listened in a very nearfield desktop stereo setup. BACCH was the difference. Sigh. I cheat.

I’ve just realised the reason that you like the Roger Waters Amused To Death album, it’s because it was recorded in QSOUND.

Original Poster Here, and I have comments:

  1. What a great supporting Board. Not one person was condescending, rude or dismissive at all. I am not at the same level as many here, but you have treated me so well and seriously I thank everyone on the Board plus the owners PS Audio for doing this.

  2. I read every comment and took each comment seriously.

  3. I listened to every song recommendation seriously, fell in love with Roger Watters, and even had some of them, “Birds” for example.

  4. Most importantly I improved my sound stage. How you say?

  5. I pulled the speakers out a bit more, so I am about 15 inches from the front wall, and getting much more soundstage from the left, and pretty solid up and down and a bit of depth, and …

  6. I did tow-in on the left speaker which is too close to the side wall but somehow gave me some, not the same, but some sound stage to the right even into and byound the wall.

  7. Now I do have some DSP through Volumio which lets me adjust Left and right, distance as well as gain, and I played around with a lot of that, and …

  8. Lovely. I did the tour at PS Audio and heard the super system but for 100K less, pretty darn good.

Finally, the group has been wonderful and I Thak you so much. The Aspen FR 10s may be a consideration as always looking for more but pretty good right now with Bill Evans Trio “Blue In Green”

I think your next step should be adding some diffusion behind the speakers. There are lots of options. Do your homework.

Also, make sure the “tweeters” in your speakers are as close to ear level as possible. A pile of books or magazines can serve as risers until you have the time and money to source some “proper” speaker stands.

Finally, I would attend to these set up suggestions BEFORE running any DSP/Room Correction software programs. The DSP will do less harm and more good if you can.

Regardless, if you run with DSP don’t forget to re-run DSP after you make these types of adjustments.

Cheers.
