My favorite approach to addressinga cell phone ring is a piano soloist who improvised theme and variations on the audience errant cell phone ring. And when done, stood and thanked the audience member for reminding him of the ring melody.
As a performer I find audiences continue to improve in this regard.
Today I play a Memorial Day concert, outdoors. Everyone is donating their time.
Also at 3:00 local time I will be playings taps along with trumpet players throughout the country.
