Let me introduce you to the new amp

Yeah, crazy, right? I used to be afraid of such amazing bandwidth for fear it would pass things we do not want, but once you hear the openness of this amplifier there’s no going back to mere -3dB at 50kHz or any such rubbish.

cool

Negotiating with the wife for a Beta unit. Perhaps this will sway her!

It is a unique opportunity to own the extraordinary. My wife Terri hasn’t enjoyed the system as much for years.

Can’t wait for my beta monoblocks. My current amps (15 years old) are hybrid amps as well, the Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista 300’s. As I am looking towards the future, will there be value in placing these amps on PowerBases? As well, is each amp going to need it’s own dedicated circuit or would one 20 amp circuit for both amps be sufficient? I dare not ask about P10’s. Currently I have one for my entire system.

Paul, in your Music Listening Room One, how do you plan to set up the Monoblocks once they are built?

Specifications

Output Power (120VAC Mains, 1KHz, 1% THD)

8Ω 250W minimum
4Ω 500W minimum

In another place on the PS-Audio site:
  • 400 watts per channel 4Ω Stereo 250 model
  • 400 watts per channel 2Ω Stereo 250 model
  • Less than 0.1% thd 20Hz to 20kHz at rated power
So, which specifications are correct?
The 500 watts is correct.
OK, and what about @2Ω (400W? 500W?) and the THD (0.1% or 1%)?

Got that right, plus I have to negotiate with myself too (inveterate cheapskate that I am).

I’ll assign each to its own P10 Power Plant, place each on my floor stands and smile a lot.

I can understand the smiling. laugh Don’t think I can worry about getting each Monoblocks its own P10 quite yet.

Currently I have two dedicated 20AMP outlets in the room plus the 15 AMP outlets that the lamps plug into. Might be reasonable to add a third 20AMP line so each amp gets its own and everything else can be on that third line. For starters, would both Monoblocks on one of the 20AMP lines be ok or would it be recommended each has its own. Guess I can play around and see what works best. Not sure I want to plug my P10 that would have everything else plugged into the 15AMP line with the lamps, even with 5 Noise Harvesters scattered around the house and two on that 15AMP line.

Paul - In a previous post you stated that you planned on getting out Beta amps in March, can you please let us know if that has happened yet? I look forward to hearing feedback from your Beta testers. Also if you can share your current best guess timeframe for production and then general availability of the BHK amp it would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Bill, last I heard the beta units are going out in the next 2 to 3 weeks. Production should start shortly thereafter based on beta feedback if no changes are needed. But remember the beta guys will be testing to all kinds of conditions that PS can’t test for, so there may be changes in the worst case scenario.

Streets is right. We’re shipping the first few at the end of April, the balance in the beginning of March. They are being hand built as I write this… well, that’s not true because they’ve all gone home for the night and are probably drinking beer… but tomorrow they start again!!

I recall Bascom saying the BHK 250 is (among other good things) fast.

Is slew rate a good measure of an Amp’s speed ? I don’t know much about how all these things fit together, all things considered.

But, capacity of an amp to change voltage per unit time did seem like a useful measure, and the Parasound JC-1’s I’m currently loving happen to have a high slew rate at 130v/us.

Has slew rate of the BHK 250 stereo / 300 mono been determined ( and is able to be disclosed ) ?

Don't believe him. The first few go out end of April, the balance the beginning of May. Unless Paul has a time machine that can go backwards a month . . . .

Hey, who knows, maybe that’s the ‘secret’ project we saw pictures of . . .

:)

Doh! Spoiler alert! May comes after April and not March.

Unless you meant April 2015 and March 2016.

Both begin with "M" . . . .

I’m trying to stay away from this part of the forum. The wife and I decided that the BHK Beta wasn’t in the budget right now so I had to send a “Dear Paul” letter back to Boulder. But, like a stink bug attracted to the light…
