Matrix X-SPDIF 2

What is the warranty on the matrix? I thought it was 90 days?

Its a one year warranty, I checked the Online Manual.. I bought in Jan/ February of this year…

It’s not likely to be technically challenging for an experienced solderer. But, I hear you. I would push back a little bit and say that if they cannot have an authorized technician fix this that you would prefer a replacement unit. Having a distributor who is not a trained professional fix this sounds like amateur hour to me.

I guess I look at it this way. At least u got honesty from Arthur. He could have said he would have a tech look at it. And I wonder how many places do that. From some of the stories I have heard and endured from the ‘professionals’ my guess is you are in good hands. Lol.

One other thing - maybe the noise is decreased without the led.

Haha! Now I’m going to experiment with vibrational adjustments to the Matrix which now rests on a book of prayers, and perhaps a crystal on top ?

Support all of your cables with maple blocks of wood…

I’m pretty sure the Matrix sounds better this way, the prayers have to help!

Oh my, 8 days with no Matrix posts, guess everyone is focused on the direct sales issue :face_with_monocle:

I followed up with Arthur about my Matrix LED bulb warranty fix job. Arthur clarified that he is actually a certified Matrix tech and handles all of their warranty repairs for the products he sells. He wrote:

“I have been working on electronics since I was 5 years old, I am now 50. I built my first amp from scratch when I was 10 years old. I am not just a distributor I also work on product designs. I convinced Matrix to use the ESS 9038 pro chip in the X-Sabre Pro DAC. I also introduced Matrix to the engineers at ESS Technology so we could all work together on this model. That is the level of involvement I have with all of these brands on my site.”

I now feel perfectly fine having him repair my Matrix.

I’m now feeding the X-SPDIF 2 with an Element H card, powered by a 9v linear power supply. Break-in is still ongoing but at 50 hours it was clear that I have no further need for my modded Mac mini.

Let us know how that goes. I think all of us have gone thru Arthur.

I am still enjoying what the matrix did to my overall sound. Will prob do an LPS for Christmas.

Mailed it yesterday, should reach Arthur on Thursday. He said a couple days turn around. I absolutely miss the Matrix in my rig. I tried Roon over the Bridge II, it was honestly awful in comparison…

Wow. And you were waffling for a bit weren’t you? That’s a nice testimonial p

Yep! I sold my Bridge II a month or so ago. I knew I would never use it again!!

Sort of. Its in part appreciation for the Matrix, and part disdain for the Bridge II. I also changed speaker cables and bought a subwoofer since those early days with the Matrix, and now everything sounds quite swell…

I have the same question.

I hear that this Matrix business is a conversion from USB out to I2S…but are people only using HD music? Or can they use roon and tidal?

This is the first Ive heard of this.

can someone lend some explanation?

Thanks in advance

T

The Matrix is not an end point for Roon, nor a streamer for Tidal. You need an USB end point/streamer like the UltraRendu, or you connect the Matrix directly to you PC via USB, using the Matrix drivers.

Hope it helps.

it does

thank you

so to be clear…would I need to hook up ethernet to the roon core? If yes, this wont work for me since my macbook, stupidly, only has thunder input/output.

Thanks again

T

The Matrix does not have an Ethernet port. If you are using a MacBook, you would hook it to the USB port.

Example MacBook -> usb c to usb a adaptor -> usb audio cable -> Matrix -> i2s (hdmi cable) -> dac

The adaptor is like this one

But you don’t have to necessarily use the apple one…
