We tried Matrix running with and without Uptone Audio lps1.2. It was no contest really,it was so much more fluid and analog sounding with lps1.2. Havent tried any other external power supply though.
But yes,you really want to use one in my opinion. But remember that you also need good dc and power cable then too for best results
Cost is 435usd plus dc and power cable.
Excluding lps1.2, my view is that all external psu seems to do as add a bit of noise into your system at various frequency bands that may, or my not make the system sound more pleasing. I myself am getting disenchanted with all this noise stuff and going to re investigate optical, which removes all noise, and I believe is the way Ted has indicated in the past is the way to go if you’re just playing CD or SACD sourced material.
De gustibus non est disputandum
The opticalRendu will be on sale in April. I’m gonna give it a shot.
Post #666 You know what that means!
I just meant going optical between matrix and dac rather than i2s

Hi - did you get the WW cable yet?
If you did - what do you think?
Hi, not yet, due to be delivered tomorrow. Will let you know how it goes, thanks.
I keep thinking of getting the platinum. …and then I don’t
FWIW, my WireWorld dealer told me the WW Platinum Starlight 7 HDMI is indistinguishable sonically from the Silver Starlight 7 (and the Starlight 7).
So I have this 9v power supply that came w my wyred4sound recovery unit (RUR). Has anyone tried using this with their matrix? (Dancingsea?). Thx tim
I haven’t tried the wall wart that came with the RUR. I have used my Gophert switching power supply with a Ghent DC cable and a Viber power cable. As I mentioned, a guy on Computer Audiophile who is an electrical enthusiast swears the Gophert is 85% as good as his Uptone LPS 1.2’s. YMMV.
Cheap wall warts are notorious, so I speculate USB power would be better, but who knows.
The Gophert does sound better than USB power on the Matrix. Following your “buy it once” philosophy, and Uptone LPS 1.2 would be a great next step and I believe they have a 30 day return policy, if not, then Small Green Computers does.
Here’s the Gophert
Well I’m enjoying the proverbial plateau at the moment. And since I had this 9v RUR wallwart hanging around for free - figured I’d give it a go. I’ll try it just to see where it takes it.
Hi Regarding External Power to the Matrix.
I run a dedicated AudioPC with WinSvr 2019 Core/ AO/ Jplay Femto/ Bubble UpNP on my phone The PC Power supply is an HDPlex 100W linear supply.
I tried running power directly from the HDPlex to the Matrix, it made the sound noticeably worse, it was more edgy sounding.
i decided to give Lithium Ion batteries a try. i found this 7.2 V pack made for Racing cars it is rated at 3000mAH.
When I hooked this up there was a very notifiable improvement, The thump of a bass drum has more authority where it makes you sit up and take notice.
Also I noticed that I was running the DS volume about 8-10 points higher than usual. Overall a big improvement
About $70 total
the charge on one pack last about 6-7 hours Which means you can recharge the first pack in less time that it take to run the other one flat
The extra leads are to make the hook up easier, they just came in the 10 Pack
That isn’t how it played for me. I hear a nice difference with the Platinum. I suppose it is possible that I just want it to, but I doubt it.
I have not heard any of the Starlight 7 HDMI’s, so all I can say is that my WireWorld dealer, who is a very knowledgable and experienced audiophile and who had a financial interest in me buying a Silver or Platinum (which I said to him that I was open to doing), pounded the table for the discontinued red-jacketed Starlight 7 HDMI. He was adamant that the three Starlight 7 HDMI cables are indistinguishable from each other sonically.
I wonder if you would agree or disagree with him given a chance to live with all three. All I know is I own two of them and I appreciate the difference between the top two. I was hoping not to.
I believe that you hear a material difference, and I believe my WW dealer that he does not. I have been satisfied for over a year with a $12 no-name HDMI cable between the Matrix and DS, so I am hopeful I will prefer the basic Starlight 7 HDMI to my $12 “reference” cable.
