Yes, that was the brilliant part, luring Elk into using a quote!

Yes, but it was an appropriate (and limited) use of the quote feature.

Agreed, but I deserve the teasing in any event- especially from Bootzilla. He is a good egg.

Hah! Great strategy.

[Edit: I now see Elk beat me to it; in praise of your forum acumen.]

Yes. All in good fun.

I received my DH Labs Glass Master Toslink cable today. I’ll be comparing it to my Wireworld Silver Starlight HDMI here shortly. But as is usual with me, because I can never seem to just try one tweak at a time, I also ordered a new USB cable, a Wireworld Starlight 8 USB 3.0 which replaces my Starlight 7 USB 2.0, and a new tube to try out in my preamp so I’ll have to decide on the order in which I want to implement these items :^ /

I received the HT HDMI today.

Was a bit hesitant taking out the AQ Vodka that I had in already as it was sounding really good. I think people were saying to run it in at least a week.

Actually sounds pretty good right away (just a little brightness but not too extreme).

Still waiting on the DH glass Labs Toslink will report back once I have both run in and can compare them - (does Toslink need run in?)

Should also add I’ve ordered the AQVox USB power supply on @JeffofArabica recommendation:

Along with a power free USB to go with it:

Alright, I have downloaded and installed the latest embedded hqplayer to my audio Linux server. I have the service running, any recommendations as to best filter settings to use with DSDAC? There is a a rather large thread over on Audiophile Style, just want a starting point then I can tweak from there. I will need to purchase another license, since my original license was for Windows on the 3.x version of the software.

see this thread, specially from post 16 forward. Lots of info there.

Thank you sir!

@drarifakhtar - It took ~50hrs before there was a significant change in the HT Magic Audio HDMI cable and I started to really like the cable. It took another 100hrs for the cable to really start shining. I am at 175hrs today and I’m liking the cable. So, I decided to stop with the 24/7 burn in and slow role the rest of the meat on the bone. I completely agree with @lonson (Lon) on the cable burn-in time frame. In addition to @drarifakhtar comments, the sound stage initially was thin. Right now thin SS and harshness are but a distant memory.

Also, I love my JMaxwell cable from Nucleus+ to Matrix. As Ted indicates, get a USB cable as short as possible. I got the 12in cable. I believe they go down to 8in cable. It may not show up on website as the smallest, might have to call.

I am looking forward to it. To be honest it sounds pretty good even with no burn in so I might just let it improve as I listen like you are now doing. That said I will have to see what the harshness is like at night, I find that daytime noise tends to mask it a little and what sounds exciting during the day can be too much when it is very quiet.

Thanks for the info - I didn’t know you could do that! I just presumed that there was a minimum of 3ft or 1m.

Anyway I ordered a 3ft cable because that is about what I need (Nucleus is at the very top of my rack). Glad I didn’t go crazy and get a 9 foot cable. I usually have a tendency to buy things longer just in case I move them during my endless tinkering.

@drarifakhtar - I made sure my N+ was right below the Matrix and could have went 8in; however, 12in was fine. Not a fan of USB, never have been. Like Ted says, keep them as short as possible. I also made sure I went with the 70cm HT Magic HDMI. I like to keep all my cabling as short as possible. When I reconfigured my Ethernet, I went with 25cm AQVOX Ethernet cables to make sure the connection from AQVOX-SE to Giga FOIL filer, to N+ was as short as possible.

I have never thought of reselling any cable I have bought; however, I am reselling a couple right now. I never put resell as a variable in a trade space matrix wrt cables.

I generally prefer closed form 16M. I also prefer lp over the mp settings. Miska, the developer likes poly sinc ext2.

Keep them as short as possible unless there is a chance you may want to re-sell them. If there is a chance of that keep them a minimum of one meter in length.

(oh sure, there are those who will scream WRONG but I believe this to be true.)

Well, I just spent some time comparing my new DH Labs Glass Master toslink to my Wireworld Silver Starlight HDMI between the Matrix and DSD Sr and unfortunately I preferred the more expensive Wireworld to the DH Labs. I really wanted to prefer the toslink as I could have sold the Wireworld for double what I paid for the DH Labs but it really was a pretty obvious preference in all areas (sigh). The toslink sounded nice but the Wireworld just sounds so ‘right’ tonally, in note decay, soundstage, imaging, bass, probably every category.

Did you ensure that only the optical cable is connected and nothing else? Ted mentiomed that is a better configuration to avoid noise

Yes, only one cable was connected at a time.

Playing devils advocate, I’m not saying you are incorrect because obviously I’ve not heard it, but us humans like what we know. Maybe your ww sounds best to you as that is what you are used to, so maybe the optical is actually more correct.

It’s like me, whenever a new version of dac sw comes out I hate it because it sounds different, but after about a month of listening I think it’s great.

In other words, if you stuck with it for a month you might be happy to sell you ww.

Then again I could just be spouting nonsense
