My experience in this area, and I’ve been flying for 30 years, is that pilots only care if it’s red or green. I’ve flown many thousands of hours in fancy glass cockpits and that is all I’m interested in with the display presentation.
Yes, while flying my instrument scan is only to verify if everything is normal. And verifying the correct number of green lights are on after lowering the gear.
At least in the fixed wing craft I fly, nothing sweeps like a tach on a car or motorcycle. Thus a numerical readout or a circular graphic display are both fine while flying.
I can adjust to any type of presentation, just do not unnecessarily change them; I do not want to be forced to re-adjust.
