New PS Audio speakers?

yes, about the only time i’ve been tempted to visit a bar or pub, like ever
(as long as they serve tea!)

I’m not sure about tea at "Spirit"land. There’s a clue in the name. Never been myself, but there is an Indian next door called Dishoon that does very nice tea. There was a very small Everyman Cinema nearby that did a nice cup of tea (a corner shop called “Screen on the Corner”, surprisingly, with three rows of sofas and a bar), but Spiritland seems to have got involved and poshed it up a bit.
I think the Spiritland system was put in by Kevin Scott of Definitive Audio in Nottingham.

The only other place that crosses my mind is in Bermondsey Street, a great place but usually full of students on laptops. The forum filter will not allow me to post its name, but if you google “163-167 Bermondsey Street Coffee” you will see why.

I think the problem with tea and hifi is that to enjoy a nice cuppa you need a bit of peace and quiet.

ah yes, and rather more deliberatly triggered than the “Scunthorpe” effect

edit - i’m disappointed the forum SW let me type that!

That may not have travelled across the Atlantic. Lovely place, Scunthorpe. Just makes me think of Derek & Clive. That was my teenage years. I once bumped into Peter Cook (literally) as he was walking out an off-license in Hampstead. Apparently that’s what he did most of the time, the rest of his time was spent walking in to them.

i hoped anyone not familiar with Scunthorpe would google it, i often google the places in US mentioned on here

I missed out on Derek and Clive, though i have seen / heard some of their stuff since, and my “instrument playing wish” would be to be able to play “lazy jazz/lounge piano like dudley moore

You need to google “This Bloke Came Up to me” but only with no one in earshot. D & C was the most copied cassette tape in my entire education, if not the history of cassette tapes. It was them or the Bee Gees. No contest.

Peter Cook was one of the funniest people who ever lived. I have a collection of his best works (“Tragically I was an only twin”). Dudley Moore graduated from Oxford. With their combined talents, they managed to redact the English language to its core meaning. It cracks me up every time. I doubt it crosses the Atlantic either.

no i don’t suppose it would, PC was indeed a clever chap, i suspect once DM “went hollywood” there was no one else who could keep up with him in comedic terms which can’t have helped his various issues. another semi-wasted talent, although Private Eye still being around is a good tribute to him

Private Eye is his legacy. Bringing this interlude from speakers to an end, shortly before he died he was interviewed by Clive Anderson, as 4 different characters over about an hour. The first was a biscuit quality controller, the second was a football manager from Scunthorpe. It ws a good way to go. It’s on YouTube.

Moore’s playing was underappreciated. He was quite talented.

Since the thread is on the topic of hifi bars. When I was stationed on Okinawa Island in the late 70s, there were two such hifi bars on an infamous street called BC Street. Both named after Beatles albums: Abbey Road and Sgt Pepper. They featured hi end Japanese equipment of the day and thousands of LPs to chose from. They were a nice escape from the girlie bars on the street. They catered to the thousands of US Airmen or Marines stationed there at the time. Both were great places and I have many fond memories. Always thought the model would work elsewhere.

I love going to Japanese jazz bars. Usually playing 50-60s era jazz through large JBLs and serving coffee or spirits. Jazz Spot Yamatoya is a must visit if you are in Kyoto - though there it’s Klispschhorn, McIntosh and Garrard.

First memory of Peter & Dudley is Bedazzled which I saw over 50 years ago. Very funny men indeed. Record scratching scene still makes me cringe.

… and a nice-looking bulgur/avocado salad. Pre-Covid we were around there quite a lot. Lovely area. Now I have a basis for suggesting we visit.

I remember watching Bedazzled on BBC 2 late one evening (I must have been around 12) - good stuff

Hopefully I could get an excellent cheese sandwich there too!

Chris will all the new Speakers have Bi-Wire capability? What has been your experience with using single or Bi-wire to speakers?

Hello, yes, all the FR series speakers will have bi-wire capability.

While I have certainly used bi-wired speaker cables, I haven’t done controlled listening tests to quantify the purported reduced IMD of this arrangement. That being said, we want to give customers the flexibility to accommodate different cabling options.
