He still doesn’t like it and there is not much difference between the two.

Mr_Bill, you are an attentive Internet surfer!
Mr. Fremer’s review is clearly stated and appears fair. I would still like to hear file comparisons, but I understand his decision not to bother.
I look forward to the ADC comparison.
Me too. I was pretty depressed yesterday after reading it. I personally listened to the NPC we sent him compared to our Lehman Black Cube and found the two to be very close. I would not have made that same conclusion nor would Michael, I suspect, had he heard it on my system.
Having said that, I’ll bet the same is true in reverse. If I heard the comparison at Michael’s I am sure I would have agreed with him.
Oh well, can’t win them all. I can tell you that another famous reviewer had the exact opposite reaction and that review will be forthcoming at the end of February. I cannot say who or where because of restrictions the magazines place on us. But you’ll read it. :x
That’s a good attitude Paul,
Yours isn’t the first great product that MK hasn’t liked. He’s spoken ill of other really great products that he doesn’t personally like before. One of which I owned and really liked.
It has to be ‘warm’ sounding for him to like. If it’s fast and clear, I don’t think he prefers.
I think I know who it is … in the February issue of The Absolute Sound it says next months issue has a review of the NPC. My guess is AHC reviews it. I’ve listened to my NPC a bit and have been impressed, but still think the whole analog front end was lacking something. I just did a reconfiguration of the system along with a cleaning of all connections, sounds better! I also pulled out my old phono preamp, AR PH-2. I’m letting it get thoroughly warmed up before making a comparison. It will be interesting …
