TIDAL CEO Jesse Dorogusker:
…we will be introducing hi-res FLAC for our HiFi Plus subscribers soon. It’s lossless and an open standard. It’s a big file, but we’ll give you controls to dial this up and down based on what’s going on.
@timm I interpreted it as functionality like all streaming apps already have to limit bandwidth if desired (mobile data usage) but you make an interesting point.
TIDAL offers some albums in Atmos, the streaming of which obviously consumes more bandwidth, with exceptions, than 2 channel.
I wonder if TIDAL’s free tier has generated a substantial increase in overall user base? No idea if or how it differentiates from Spotify’s free base which is enormous.
STILL no Qobuz in Canada - although I STILL hear rumors it is coming…makes no matter anyways as I just ordered an Alpine Halo iLX-F511 big screen for my truck - it now does Tidal.
Mobile Hi-Res Tidal! - Wheeee!
I’ve had these overgrown monster amps sitting around collecting dust too long, time to deck out the truck to match the car. Anything worth doing is worth OVER doing… right?
We had Tidal first. Then we tried Qobuz and thought it’s sounded better. But I keep both. Now we’ve dropped Qobuz and are solely with Tidal. To us it sounds best overall. Yes, Qobuz may best it on a track here and there, but to us Tidal wins the day.
Dumped Amazon HD as I finally switched from PC to streamer so I could hang with the big boys… Picked up Qobuz and very happy. I few things I can’t find but I’m good with that and the sound quality is excellent.
+1 Qobuz for sound and for content that suits me. I would very much like it if labels GTST and worked out deals with streaming companies for more revenue, then the labels went back to the artists and put more money into their accounts.
Streaming is incredibly cheap and I fir one wouldn’t mind it doubling. Current models aren’t sustainable. The owner/CEO of Spotify has a personal worth of $300,000,000. There’s something very selfish about that
