Scientists achieve major breakthrough in preserving integrity of sound waves

Only pushing 8 PM here but it is my bedtime so I’m a little slow in the thinking department too.

Interestingly next up for me to watch on my blu-ray player is “Watchmen” (HBO). So. . . who watches them? Me.

Great show- every episode gets better and crazier- too bad it likely won’t see another season

Agreed on all counts (I watched the show on broadcast and will re-watch on disc, bought this set in part because I can then loan it to a best friend who doesn’t have HBO).

I took four years of Latin in high school. No effort on my part to forget pretty much all of it. EXCEPT : Sit (sic ?) fit infatatum ( sp?) = What’s happening baby? I can say it but not spell it.

I don’t get you guys that let teachers chuck chalk and board rubbers at you - in my school it was the other way round. All I remember is Amo Amas Amat … (or something like that). My school motto was Ex Animo Tanquam Deao (no idea how it should be spelt, or what it means).

Ex Animo Tamquam Deo: From the heart as from God

It was a long time ago, and a fairly polite grammar school - wouldn’t be allowed now, and neither are chalk boards thanks to the dust…

In my case it was a boarding school in M’Babane, Swaziland (now Eswatini), Waterford Kamhlaba School. Then considered one of the very best schools on the continent. Still going, though much larger now. I was the only American student the three years I was there. There was a waiting list to get in, you didn’t seriously misbehave or you would find yourself packing. This particular teacher, an Anglican priest, was the only one who behaved this way with students. And he was only there a year or two. . . .

Thanks for the translation.

My school was, in my opinion, very poor in many respects. We used to play bridge in the maths lessons - I’d have preferred to have learned a bit more maths (although love the game of bridge and other card games). Regarding bridge, I had a regular partner and we played a lot with his parents. We were once invited to play against another couple for paultry sums. nevertheless we were taken to the cleaners (a bit like trying to beat someone at squash who’s better than you are).

I had bad math teachers and calculus never really clicked for me. Sadly. A good Math teacher is priceless.

many folks say @what use was maths in school, i never used any of it”, but i found it useful all the way through life (although maybe not quadratic equations, but even then the graphical representation of those was useful).
i guess i was lucky there.

the OP is just a “starter for ten” for our collective ramblings…

my son just says “anecdote alert” and leaves the room, and my wife just rolls her eyes and puts some earbuds in, so now i have somewhere for these random ramblings. i doubt i am the only one in this situation
