Just to toss in my five cents…
Am listening to a live concert of Radiohead through a Sonos ZP90 (W4S mod), PWD, GCHA and Audio Technica W1000… Nothing wrong here… You don’t feel the bass as much as through speakers, but every nuance and emotion brings more goose bumps than through speakers…
I happen to enjoy all reproduction. I simply cannot get past the stage of being amazed we can record and playback music. This is inherently magical. :)
Ditto. But there are also the layers of depth and inner details that reveal so much more about each instrument and its presentation that are truly astounding. Like being able to hear those little rivets rattling around on that symbol or to hear the musicians finger pluck the strings on the bass, and to know it was his finger rather than assume so.
But the most interesting, for me anyway, is to hear the musicians conversing to each other or hear them as they 'sing' or hum along etc.

...and meaningful - "Without music, life would be a mistake"
As I see it, they are all transducers - some are just really close, others further away. Gains and losses all along that continuum.

Wonderfully stated.
