Picked up during my Satchmo fest trip at the Louisiana music factory on Frenchman. I’m playing the set backward.
Satchmo Fest was great and 99% normal. We went to the kick off night on a riverboat and spent about 4 hours in the tents each day listening to great music. Fun and pleasant scene. 4 hours in the tents was the limit, stifling hot down there…not a surprise. Our four room house/hotel has a pool so time was spent cooling off in paradise. Saw Glen David Andrews in a tiny bar on Frenchman on Saturday night. He’s amazing and electrifies a small crowd.
Given all the usual fun, the city is in trouble, lots of places closed or short hours, crime is worse than ever, of-course it’s always been a tough town but…(8 people shot on a sat while there…on bourbon or canal…tourist areas). I’ll go back but it’ll be a while…sad.
