Picked this up unopened - only dislike was paper inners left a lot of paper dust on pressing, but after cleaning it was fine. Sounds pretty good.
I was surprised by those paper sleeves when I got the same album - I do wonder how much a good sleeve adds to the cost of albums… I suppose it depends on how many you produce.
I think their presentation is nice, so this slight adjustment would be worth it at the 69 euro price point. I’m sharing feedback with them as I am sure others would have noted this as a nice improvement. It was not really an issue if you or I open, clean and play, but if some of the collectors don’t open for years, it may be for others purchasing used several years down the road.
Qobuz. HR. I have posted a few albums of Reger’s music. I am not sure why because he is a late Romantic; there must be something about the covers which catches my eye, Op101 was pleasantly harmless but Op117, which had lured me in by purporting to be a chaconne, was a vicious little beast which tortured the poor violin with no pretence of musicality. Sound and playing both good but the recording level seemed lower than usual.
I’ve wanted this album on vinyl for a while - it turns out there was a special pressing of it in the UK & Europe in 2018. Discogs did me right and now its on my turntable.
I am willing to bet this was a digitally recorded session as it was recorded in 1999, but it does sound quite good on vinyl. I assume its the original Bob Ludwig mastering too.
Being a fan of Ryuichi Sakamoto I’ve added this to my Tidal favorites for a future listen.
Edit:
I am listening to this now on Tidal. It is wonderful, unfortunately hard copies are ridiculously expensive.
Ryuichi Sakamoto is on that David Sylvian album too
Yes, and a strong pairing to be sure.
