Nice string of jazz spins there young man.
New on Qobuz. 24/96. An album celebrating a supposed competition between the two composers which never happened. I have a feeling this hook has been used before. Pleasant accessible pieces with good sound and harpsichord tone. Playing very competent but I would have preferred a tad less weight on the left hand on occasions. The two chaconnes seemed to be chaconnes in name only. Enjoyable listening.
Grumble: Why has the font weight on the forum plummeted? As an old man it is bad enough dealing with shades of grey in one’s hair without struggling to see them on screen.
Nathan Davis With Georges Arvanitas Trio – Live In Paris - The ORTF Recordings 1966/67
Just arrived today, this is the Sam Records recent reissue, it’s very nice.
Paul Hindemith (1895-1963): String Quartet No. 4 (1921)
Amar Quartet
A real masterpiece of a string quartet. If you enjoy the chamber music of Shostakovich you’ll have no trouble appreciating Hindemith.
Playing through again as didn’t finish the other night.

Anecdote alert:
I once tried to hitch hike a lift from the queen’s motorcade - local council had cancelled the buses due to HRH driving through and I had just emerged from the shops with two huge bags of shopping.
She didn’t stop…
Observing protocol for Her Majesty The Queen, who sadly passed away in Scotland, 70 miles up the road in Ballater/Balmoral… Cessation (‘spinning thread’) tonight, will resume tomorrow, tonearms on half-mast. A sad day.!
Sad to see her go, partly for my mother’s sake (she grew up in the Blitz in SE London so is very attached to that generation of the royal family) and partly because the Q has been a constant amongst all the madness of the last 60 years.
I actually feel sad. Not a Royalist that’s for sure. But I admired The Queen.
