Fantastic, quite a thing for a 50 year old album.
My Deluxe box is sitting wrapped up by the tree, week to go!
If you are a fan of large orchestral recordings, and if you love hearing the timbre and resonance of the instruments with great authority, this is an excellent recording to play. Plus, the music is just terrific. For those of you with systems capable highly resolving bass response, the timbre and resonance of the huge orchestral bass drum is just phenomenal.
A fine album in LP form as well. I obtained it when first released at Quintessence Audio in Naperville.
Yet another interpretation of Julius Eastman’s Feminine. Eastman was somewhat ahead of the curve regarding new 20th century classical music. His works somewhat rooted in the minimalism of Terry Riley (In C), Philip Glass (Einstein on the Beach) and Steve Reich (Music for 18 Musicians), but ahead of Glass and Reich in terms of developing ideas. Unfortunately his music sat unrecognized for some forty plus years. Now his compositions are sought out by performers and listeners alike.
Yes, I also had it on LP from its first release back in the day.
“Pee Wee’s Song–The Music of Pee Wee Russell” Arbor cd. This is one of my favorite discs. Nominally led I think by Bobby Gordon who captures the essence of Pee Wee on his clarinet, it also features two other favorite musicians of mine, Marty Grosz on guitar and Dan Barrett on trombone. And the music has that wonderful Pee Wee quirkiness so well rejuvenated in killer sound.
