Setting your Tidal account is only needed at first time of use. Once set it only takes 3 taps (1 > start mControl, 2 > tap Browser, 3 > tap Tidal) to enter artist name in the magnifying glass in the upper right corner. The use of favorites (playlists, albums, tracks and artsists) is also convenient. Just try mControlHD for a far better interface.
Innuos is great, but be aware…you’ll still need mControl(HD) for full MQA unfold. Servers like the Innuos or Melco which integrate Tidal however, just like the MacBook, only delivers the first (software-)unfold. The second has to be done by the Bridge and only delivers when using mControl(HD).
Mcontrol still extremely glitchy. Typing in artist name is just OK, but do you know how many Stan Getz albums are on Tidal? Then took 4 tries to get it to play over the DSJ. First time it wanted to play over iPhone, then wouldn’t respond the next 2 tries. Ended up fumbling around before it worked. But then only played the first song, I selected the 2nd song and it played for 7 seconds then stopped, then no sound from any song.
Are you sure there isn’t a different/better/saner way to get MQA? If Mcontrol is still needed, what’s the point of a music server for me?
Unfortunately you really need mControl or mControlHD to achieve full Tidal mqa unfolding through the DS/BridgeII. Over here mControlHD is working very reliable however exclusive in use in case i want to listen full unfolded Tidal mqa. I prefer listening Qobuz (HiRes) and local stored files using BubbleUPnP (Android only).
You need to find the cause of the glitches, i.e. connecting the Bridge straight to the router (without switch) and/or using mControlHD on the MacBook.
Music servers are not about mqa, they can deliver better sonics overall due to audiophile build/parts/isolation and convenience in use.
Got Mcontrol to work, but again only on the first song of the album, after that it apparently keeps playing but nothing is coming out of the DSJ. Keep getting a “Notice - Session does not have playback privileges”.
Mcontrol is currently on iPhone, so wireless to router, then HomePage to 2m ethernet and into the DSJ. No switch. Can’t find Mcontrol or McontrolHD download for MacBook.
Getting the distinct impression that hobbyists love to tinker with this stuff, or at least accept it as normal computer use, and vendors listen to them because the frustrated eventually just walk away.
Try the Bridge directly connected to the router bypassing HomePage (whatever that is…), use DHCP (instead of static IP) and set your Tidal account once more in mControl.
Hereafter unplug everything and power up the router first, after that the DS/Bridge then the rest of yer stuff.
Need HomePage to complete a hardwired ethernet connection to DSJ. Homepage consist of a pair of devices that plug into the router and in this case DSJ via ethernet cable but piggybacks ethernet on the electrical power wiring to transmit data.
‘DHCP/static IP’ just put this discussion out of my realm. Wish you’d stop confusing DSJ with DS, bridge, and bridge II (bridge is simply built into DSJ).
Turned off/on router and DSJ. Now Mcontrol just repeats the same song. Do I have to go this every time to hear a different song? Note that this particular album in MQA via Mcontrol/Tidal/ethernet sounds the same as ALAC Redbook via MacBook/iTunes/USB.
I have a latest generation iPod Touch that I haven’t used in over a year which is the same size screen and operates exactly like your iPhone when it comes to mControl. I just in the space of five minutes turned it on, downloaded the version of mControl for phones, logged into Tidal, set it to play to the Bridge, picked a random playlist and hit play. It has now been playing continuously for over 15 minutes going from one song to the other without a hitch. This indicates that your issues are a combination of user error and network issues. From your rather vague description it appears that what you keep referring to as “Home Page” is nothing more than a powerline adaptor such as these and may be the source of all of your problem if you have your Tidal account set correctly.
As to what Wijber is calling things the Bridge II is the same network card whether hardwired into the DSJ or slot-loaded into the DS Sr. It operates the same way and the operating instruction are the same.
And before you bring it up about “computer experts” or “hobbyists’” again I am older than you and have no more computer related background than you I just figure things out and have the proper equipment at hand before I start. This is not as difficult as you are trying to make it and does not require all the extra parts and pieces other than a stable network and the proper control device.
Apparently there is no way to accomplish a direct connection between the router and the DS (?) which is a pity because probably that would be the most reliable connection…
Thanks but just dumped the app. No app should be so difficult to setup or finicky to use. Besides it locked in (matches) the alarm volume on my phone (which I normally have set at 100%) with that of the DSJ (that was loud!).
