Why audiophiles cry?

I had breakfast with a few friends yesterday, non of whom are audiophiles. But they are all artists; pianist, painter, writers. Every one of them admitted that music can bring them to tears.

It is the nature of art.

Two pieces of music arouse an emotion in me, so strong and pure that sometimes it triggers copious tears.

Liberating tears appeared right at the peak of the singers’ high notes.
Chills down the spine accompany this moment of emphasis.
The skin takes on the so-called typical manifestation of piloerection, more commonly defined as “goosebumps”.
The heart starts to beat faster.

This situation could be close to a musical heart attack.

So far this has happened to me with two songs:

Andrea Bocelli, Céline Dion - The Prayer
Andrea Bocelli, Matteo Bocelli - Fall on me

Returning to the topic, I would stay away from an audiophile who doesn’t express feelings while listening to a song that moves and involves him personally.

Why this happens:

well fortunately we are human beings, maybe for a little while longer.

Nice suggestion. This Italian version much better than higher fidelity Live Central Park concert

Grand kids are amazing. Wife and I call it double love. You loved your kids but grand kids are well beyond that. I have three grandsons and have never loved anything as much as I love them. Congratulations!!

Thank you, Sir.

When I first heard the gold CD version of Poetry Man by Phoebe Snow on my system with Maggies and the first time since a crappy car radio when it was getting airplay in the mid-70s, I openly wept.

On a separate occasion, I played Days of Future Past by The Moody Blues, in its entirety. At the end, I turned up the lights and a friend had mascara dripping down her face. She looked at me and asked, “Why don’t they make music like that anymore?”

That was when I realized that being an audiophile wasn’t about being a gadget geek, but rather about letting the joy and human spirit of music raise our consciousness.

Love the Moodys and Days of Future Passed. Have you been able to find a really good recording of this? Haven’t found one yet kind of like the struggle to find excellent recordings of Steely Dan. Guess it’s time to start down the R2R rabbit hole and find a friend with original master tapes!

I have the SACD of Days of Future Past and it is very satisfying.
