My manual transmission skills were honed on a mid-70s Ford Maverick back in high school ‘76-77. Buddy would ask his sister to use it on weekend nights. Clutch took a beatin by the time we knew what we were doing! Especially the incline starts!
I have to admit- Maverick guy here too. Had one in the 70s and was in the shop constantly. Got rid of it for something more practical- A Porsche 914. (Ok, more a VW, but I thought it was cool)
Looking to play with tubes in case someone can lead me in a good direction. I see a thread or two currently so anyone please chime in. I can’t really say what I have stinks, but you don’t know what ya don’t know and this would be a pretty inexpensive journey at least compared to switching amps…
Amps-
QS Mid Monos
Tubes
1 12AX7 input (Mullard CV4004)
1 6922 driver (Electro Harmonix EH)
2 EL34 outputs (tesla)
Input
HiFi Rose 520 (pre out)
Output
Cornwall IVs
I don’t need anymore power. I assume the input tube(s) are the key to sound manipulation?
I had a 76 Pinto Wagon. Eventually had to learn how to shift smoothly from first directly to third because it stopped going into second.
I liked the package. V6 and stick in a light car.
I didn’t keep it long because it was made like they just didn’t care.
I sold it and bought a 2002. THAT was a real car.
That all sounds excellent.
In my experience, Telefunken NOS 6 DJ8 tubes are sublime. But they’re stupid expensive.
BMW? I’m sure we’ve been through this in the car thread. What year? I had a 72 tii.
My grandson learned how to drive a manual transmission through watching YouTube videos, I couldn’t believe he nailed it the first time.
- It was wonderful.
I learned to drive in a 4-speed 1969 Volvo 142 and my dad’s diesel Rabbit, also a four speed. Speed was the one thing neither of these car possessed.
Envious here!
I should actually have one.
It costs way less than my amplifier. Hell, it costs less than my Preamplifier.
It is a good time to get a Tesla Y or 3. The prices has been going down quite a bit and with a $7500 tax credit, you can’t beat that. You can buy a couple of these cars for the price of you amp alone!
Great Choice!
I got the Model 3 just before the COVID lockdown and have never had a single issue with it. The only maintenance I’ve needed to have done is to rotate the tires.
Best of luck with it!
Or even less than a few of your power cord sets!
Congrats, it looks great, I was considering a Tesla too! I like the idea of “online maintenance and upgrades” like DAC’s software, able to improve performances over the time.
The one thing that’s stopped me from going with a Tesla is what up till now has been the essentially throw away aspect of the car, once the batteries need to be replaced. From everything I’ve read the cost to do so is more than the value of the car at that point.
Don’t be silly. People who buy Teslas buy a new one every three years.
The Telsa batteries are warranted for 8 years or 120,000 miles whichever comes first, but people goes way beyond the warranty of the Tesla depending on how they maintain and charge their batteries. And by the time it’ time to buy a new battery, like Al say, it’s time for a new car, just like when it’s time to replace a gas powered motor, get a new car instead.
I think you will find that a tesla lifespan is not much different than ICE vehicles. Here’s a Motortrend article you might want to check out.
Hmm, interesting. This is not the impression I had from some info of a few years ago, with respect to battery replacement cost.
