I would like to have a BACCH something or other here in my computer desk setup. But right now in this nearfield setup I have the speakers toed in so they basically point straight at my ears. I think this helps the crosstalk issue fairly well. I guess what I am enjoying most about the new amp is the texture of the various sounds. Guitar is something new. Horns sound better than I am used to. And synthesizers, oh my. Texture is off the charts. Nearfield helps a great deal, but the amp has a strong effect coming from my former Solid State amp. I should mention Jazz is really improved greatly with this new amp.
A definite plus factor is my bunny doesnât have to listen with me. She gets a break from my weird taste in music.
I will get back in my main room soon. I know I wonât be disappointed. It is just right now experiencing tube sound for the first time it really has grabbed my attention. If I ever see another one of these amps for sale I am going to snatch it as quick as I can for my computer desk setup up at my lake place. Oh no youâre not yells my wife. LOL.
I had this very same opinion of the 299D. At the time I had the space to have a desk deep enough to have a pair of Paradigm Personaâs as my nearfield speakerâs. I was way to close to them and I couldnât get them far enough away from the wall.
I poked around a bit and borrowed a pair of Harbeth P3ESR, Rogers LS3/5A, and ProAc Tablette 10 Signatureâs. I bought the ProAcâs. They have a very easy, warm and smooth sound. More âtubeyâ. Sometimes they remind me of listening to a good pair of headphones, like ZMF. I listen to them for hours with all sorts of music with no fatigue.
My speakers are rear ported. The ports aim at the corners, nearly 3 feet away. I am using Vivid Kaya S12s at the moment. I have my pair of B&W 805 N speakers ready to try as well. They are front ported. I may try them soon but I am afraid I might like them better. What do I do with my magic bean speakers if that is true?
It would be nice but excessive, even for me. My computer is the music source, USB to Matrix with power supply to DSD Jr. Another computer in the stream is a bit much.
ProAc Tablette 10 and P3ESR have been near field mainstays for years, for good reason. When I bought P3ESR they were not much more expensive than the ProAc, now they are double the price. Although never fatiguing, vital in an office where acoustics cannot usually be as easily managed, I always found desktops systems somewhat unsatisfactory and headphones preferable. I also like to have a clear desk. I hated the wires all over the place. I love the look of the Vivid speakers, my wife does not, else I would have loved to have a pair as main speakers. Iâve never looked back from my ceiling speakers, designed by the same guy as designed the Vivid Speakers (Laurence Dickie).
Should have purchased mine, as they are currently a two plus year wait. I should add speaker pairing with Decware is more critical than with many other amplifiers, partially due to its 2.5 WPC rated output, and vacuum tube pairing. With patience one can eek more sonic magnificence out of it with proper tube selection, especially rectifiers and drivers.
My old Sonist Audio Concerto 4 speakers were on TMR last week, and lasted less than 48 hours. Congrats to whomever purchased them, you have some nice sounding speakers with a ton of magicâŠ
(but I do like the FR20âs even more)
Al, yes there is something magical and soothing about listening to a good tube component.
Since you like to spend money on hi-fi, I can warmly recommend the Westend Audio Monaco tube amplifier.
This will create confusion in your large system.
The Monaco not only looks good and sounds fantastic. It is perfectly processed like hardly any other component. And finally for you, Al, itâs not cheap.
