Anyone else order UpTone etherRegen? Percent improvement?

Oh, I’m just humouring YOU!

I asked my local dealer for a price on a Sony XR-83A90J. If it’s insane then I will get the XR-65A90J. I have had off and on over the years various Sony TV’s and they’ve all been very good. I also really like the Android/Google TV interface. I have a nVidia Shield Pro now and short of a few little nits, it’s the best and fastest interface I’ve ever used.

I have an A8H!

Feet don’t fail me now!

I recently reached out to Adrian from Sonore via email. He contacted me right away, we got together on the phone and he is wealth of knowledge for the Sonore optical set up! A very passionate audiophile. I learned a lot and it has made me rethink my set-up. Tho I’m also considering the Auralic!

@paul172 My philosophy - Buy at a reasonable price, if you don’t like it, flip it. If it resells for a bit less than you purchased it, chalk that delta up to a “rental fee”. For me, this is the only way to deal with tweaks. Outright purchasing new is where the delta between purchase and reselling is the greatest. I avoid this scenario as much as possible. Vendors who have a reasonable trial period like PSA are few and far between. For the tweaking market, the Sonore’s, UpTone’s etc of the world, it nearly impossible to find local dealers that even carry them to get a loaner to try. You can “borrow” a 100lb amp or an entire suite of cables, but you can’t borrow an etherRegen. Direct sales does have it’s negatives.

Did you discuss the opticalModule Deluxe?

He discussed the principle of the Sonore system optique and keeping any type of computers, Ethernet cables etc… Stressed the importance of keeping computers as far away from the preamp/system as possible and utilize the fiber optic cable to run from the computer to the source. He was talking mostly about the signature Rendu. We didn’t got into detail about individual products. He did say that he will work with me on price and has package deals. I’m still in the research stage. I was also impressed by the small green computer products! Had I not bought a preowned Roon Nucleus I’d be interested in the Small Green Computer.

Mr. Kennedy, do you have a good hint where to buy that stuff used?

You can borrow an EtherRegen, Uptone have a 30 day trial much like PSA.

This is what Adrian told me before I bought my SigRendu, still, I went thru the trouble of verifying his advice and in my system, he was spot on.

It definitely makes sense and the cost of the fiber cable is very cost effective.

@Rudolf_Appel - I normally surf Audiogon, US Audio mart, Canuck Audio mart, and Audiophile Style.

(@Rudolf_Appel) FYI, you can get to all of these sites’ listings via Hi-Fi Shark (a one-stop shop), except Audiophile Style.

And, I would add this forum to the list. I have completed several great transactions “rightchere”.

@scotte1 - Thanks - I do use Hi-Fi Shark. I forgot to add it to my list. It does a good job at aggregation and includes sites other then what I listed.

I also forgot to mention eBay. There are others that I frequent, but I’m not telling you what they are

Today I found the 7.5v China made cheap looking power supply that came with the EtherRegen and stuck it back in, in place of the tricked out 9v Farad Super 3 and no doubt about it, the sound lost some dimensionality and transparency, not night and day, but quite noticeable. The EtherRegen made a pretty good improvement and the Farad just made the improvement a even bigger one.

And today arrived After Dark OCXO clock. Sadly LPS was DOA and upgraded bnc cable had it´s other connector broke. It´s a long way from Hong Kong to Finland…bad things happen.

But out cold I connected existing Hdplex200 to power OCXO and I get sound
After so little burn in time I will say no more than…sound is already way better than before, lol!

Interesting, my AfterDark clock arrived today also. I’m going to use the 12V tap on my HDPlex 300W, so I skipped their LPS. it’s cold here so I’ve placed the Clock on one of my BHK300’s to warm it up before I plug it in.

Congrats for your OCXO ! There is no label to verify if LPS is 120V or 230V unit. It may very well be wrong one and that is why it failed. Seller has been very helpful and offered immediate replacement for failed unit. I managed to twist BNC cable connector to fit and firm and it works now ok.

I will wait for your impression of sound upgrades later on. Yes upgrades, very obvious from the start :sunglasses: Enjoy

At this moment I don´t feel so sad waiting for Sunlight to shine through shades…

My first impressions are positive albeit muffled by the fact that I spent the better part of a day with Paul’s set up book and disk. I’ve made a lot of modest but worthwhile changes to the speaker location and room treatments. That said, low level details in quiet passages are better than ever and music saturation is again very good. My take is the improvement is partially attributed to the new AfterDark clock on the EtherRegen. So far I’m satisfied. Apparently it takes a long time to break in the clock. it’s staying plugged in and powered even when I’m not listening.
