Is anyone in the NYC/tri state area getting the new PMG Dac? If so would you be up for a shootout with my MKII with APS transformers? I can drive my MKII to you or you are free to visit my place in Manhattan and hear the units compared using some new very revealing electrostatic speakers (can see them in my videos). I’d love to do a shootout for my new channel.

I have the Mk-2 with Aps transformers but B&W speakers. Right now I can’t rationalize the $6000 for the PMG 512 dac.

I am 20min outside Hartford (southeast) and should have the PMG DAC soon. Once its burned in, Yeah I would be up for that.

Hi, can you let me know your sound quality difference before and after the APS transformer upgrade on the MK2?
For me it was a major upgrade. Much more than the Edcor did in my MKI. They really do make a difference. I bought in early and did DIY install. So it was only like $700 or something. its a bit more now, but he may do a few other things while he is in there. To me it was way more than any cable swap or LPS has done. They really are the real deal.
As I said above, if I did not have the credits, I would have kept as selling it that low really hurt.

Thanks Brian, I jumped on the PMG dac deposit early at $250 and $8499 price but have mixed feelings on the trade in hit. Originally i was going to upgrade my 20 year old Levinson to the new PMG amp when it comes out but quickly got interested in the new dac. Not being wealthy i think i may hold out for the amp. Honestly I really love the MK2 and my Aurender streamer so with the transformer upgrade in the dac along with the new amp when it comes out will be a better way to go for me. Thanks again for your response.

One thing to note about doing a comparison. The unit that gets transported is at a disadvantage because it’s been unplugged and powered off. I’ve noted in the past that a DAC can take days to stabilize and reach optimal operating temperature.

Looking forward to the comparison between your DSD MkII upgraded DAC and the PMG DAC. I have an upgraded DSD MkI with jkRichards original APS transformers and VOCM caps. I’m debating between sending it back for jkRichards ultimate upgrade or possibly the PMG DAC.

Good point. Even with that the raw character of the Dac should be evident. Maybe we can unplug replug both Dac’s at the same time so they are both at same level of wanted up.
